Hello, I’m A.J. I work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, between 9am and 8pm.
Counselling is in-person or online: either at confidential rooms in Baildon, Saltaire or Bingley; or via Zoom, so you can get support while you’re at home.
The first session is free of charge. To find out more, contact me by email, text, phone or WhatsApp - I'll be happy to hear from you.
About me and my therapy practice
I’m an amiable, inclusive therapist, counselling adults and children since 2005. If you’re weighed down, I'll help you feel believed. My fields include: surviving loss, harmful childhood experiences, or abuse; effects of faith; and neurodiversity.
This service offers a warm, affirmative welcome to people with diverse identities and different ways of communicating.
I've been a therapist in schools, a domestic abuse service, and a college for autistic adults. I’m a part of the teams at Bingley Counselling Centre and Victoria Therapy Centre, Saltaire.
Practice description
If you’ve felt overwhelmed by the world around you, or by the world of your mind; if you think people don’t get you, or you don’t get them; or if you're not sure what you feel… you’ll be seeking a therapist who is able to see from your perspective.
If you’ve been hurt or used, you’ll have feelings you think no-one wants to hear – maybe you’re struggling to face them yourself. I’ve been trained to work gently with emotions that might seem frightening now, but can be a source of strength in future. Therapy doesn’t change the past but it helps you have more power over it, instead of the past having power over you.
In sessions, you may simply want to talk and be heard; at other times, you may prefer the flow of a conversation. For a younger child, they can communicate through play or craft; for a teenager, it might be talking, drawing, or using questionnaires.
It's you who decides what to talk about… clients have told me they appreciate a counsellor who follows their lead, but who also helps them focus on the road they want to travel along.
Therapy has its own jargon – I only use this when it helps to make things clearer; the language of real human life is wholeheartedly encouraged.
My first session
The first consultation is free and lasts up to 50 minutes. You can tell me about yourself and your reasons for seeking therapy, and check I’m the right counsellor for you; and I will give clear, helpful answers to any questions.
For people aged under 18, their parent or carer can request a free initial conversation. This service has procedures in place to ensure children’s safety.
Counselling helps you reflect – at your tempo – on what’s happened to you, and how that affects you; and how you can live life in all its wonder. Contact me if this is what you need.

About me and my therapy practice
Supervision is a breathing space for you as a counsellor and human being, to attend to your self in practice; to reflect on your clients; and to learn from your encounters and emotional responses. Supervision sessions welcome your voice, your thoughts and feelings; and help you to see your clients anew. And above all, they enable us both to keep being curious!
I can provide supervision to either trainee counsellors (reduced fee) or qualified counsellors.
Practice description
I am a person-centred therapist with experience of:
• supervising individual counsellors with different approaches
• providing training on-placement to student counsellors
• co-ordinating a district network of counsellors
• counselling clients aged from 7 to 77 with a variety of needs
Previous supervisees said I provide a trustworthy, safe and engaging ethos which they have carried into their work with clients; and where they feel both supported and freed to develop.
My first session
If you’re looking for a reflective, non-judgemental clinical supervisor, do get in contact for a free initial discussion – you can ask about my supervision and counselling approach, tell me about your work, and then consider in your own time whether you wish to set up regular meetings.
