About me and my therapy practice

Experienced Psychotherapist

I’m a counselling psychotherapist (MA SOPH Psychotherapy, MBACP Accredited) with additional training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Trauma-Focused Therapy, and EMDR. I use a range of evidence-based approaches to help people make sense of past experiences, work through phobias or adverse childhood events, and process PTSD and trauma symptoms in a safe, grounded way.

My core psychotherapy training was a Masters with a developmental Jungian orientation, which means I pay close attention to early experiences and the inner world. My approach is pluralistic and draws on a blend of theories, including Freudian and post-Freudian ideas about childhood development (such as the work of Klein, Winnicott, Erickson, and Bowlby), as well as Jungian and post-Jungian perspectives on the self, creativity, dreams, and individuation.

I offer client-led therapy both in person and online, using platforms such as Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp, or Skype—whatever feels most comfortable for you.

As an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I work to their professional ethical standards.

I’m also a member of EMDR UK

I bring 15 years of experience and over 2,000 hours of clinical practice, gained through private work and multidisciplinary teams within the charity sector.

Types of Therapy

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

If you’re curious about how your past experiences shape the way you feel and relate today, psychodynamic therapy can help. Together, we gently explore the patterns, beliefs, and emotional “walls” that may have formed in response to difficult moments. Sometimes these old defences no longer serve us, and therapy offers a safe space to look at them with fresh eyes.

If it feels helpful, we can also bring in meditation skills, imagination work, or dream exploration.

We’ll work at your pace in a collaborative, person-led way. Sometimes I may suggest reflective exercises, creative inner work, or reading between sessions to support your process.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) & Mindfulness

CBT is a focused, practical therapy for when you want support with a specific problem. It’s goal-oriented and works by helping you recognise unhelpful thought patterns so you can create healthier emotional and behavioural responses. We work as a team, using tools like thought charts, mindfulness exercises, and gentle homework to support change in your day-to-day life.

Trauma-Focused Therapy

Trauma-focused therapy helps you understand how past experiences may still be affecting your emotional, physical, or relational wellbeing today. It offers a compassionate, evidence-based way to explore the impact of trauma while developing tools to feel safer, stronger, and more in control.

EMDR

EMDR is a gentle, structured therapy that helps the brain process distressing memories. While focusing on a specific memory, we use bilateral stimulation—such as eye movements, tapping, or sounds—to support your brain’s natural healing process.

The memory doesn’t disappear, but the intensity often softens, making it easier to think about without becoming overwhelmed. EMDR can help with trauma, anxiety, phobias, grief, and other emotional difficulties.

My first session

A free phone call can be arranged to see if I’m the right therapist. Please e mail to arrange.

Your first session is charged at the usual rate and includes a gentle assessment of your history, current concerns, and what you hope to gain from therapy. From there, we create a personalised therapy plan that suits your needs. If you’d find it helpful, I can also provide a written outline of our agreed focus areas and the therapeutic tools we may use.

I’m experienced in both short-term, goal-focused work and longer-term psychotherapeutic therapy, so we can shape the process in whatever way feels right for you.

About me and my therapy practice

My focus is to help individuals heal and energise life and relationships by exploring coping strategies, defences, emotions and their personal experience.

Stress and anxiety, drains our psychic energy, leaving us exhausted and unable to accomplish our goals. Therapy sheds light on negative thinking patterns and revitalises your sense of enjoyment and purpose, enabling you to adopt healthier coping skills.

Many people find that talking to a professional therapist helps process difficult feelings and allows important realisations to come into awareness.

You could be dealing with unexpected responses to life's dilemmas; grieving loss, or feeling less able to cope with the stresses and strains of city life.

Perhaps just struggling to create balance as you negotiate the demands of; friends, family, work and relationships. This is where therapy could help.

This means events can be viewed in many different ways, according to the type of narrative, the person has developed.

Therapy is confidential and non discriminatory. It is thought that each person has a story or way of seeing their life which changes over time.

I offer confidential non-judgemental psychotherapy, which will be tailored to suit you as an individual.

I adhere to the BACP ethical code of practise.

Choosing the right therapist, someone that feels like a good match, is equally important.

The therapeutic relationship should feel safe, as you may need to explore difficult feelings and during this time you need to be in a comfortable "green safety zone."

Feel free to contact me, and we can arrange a free phone call for you to ask any questions, and explore whether the way I work, feels like the right approach for you.
