Availability
I currently have availability for online clients across the U.K.
Sessions take place on Zoom. You don’t need to have a Zoom account, you just click on the link that I send through prior to sessions.
I work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. My latest session time is 6pm.
Online therapy offers many benefits and for the people I work with, it's the preferred option. Some key benefits:
▪️Flexibility for those managing demanding schedules.
▪️You can choose a therapist who you feel is the best fit, not just someone local.
▪️ Accessibility for clients living in remote areas or who have mobility issues.
▪️Saves time and stress with no travel or parking hassles.
▪️The comfort and familiarity of one’s own environment can make it easier to engage more openly in sessions.
▪️Continuity - allowing sessions to continue seamlessly even when life circumstances or locations change.
▪️ More flexibility in rescheduling - the therapist isn’t confined by certain days or times in a therapy room.
▪️The therapeutic relationship - empathy, trust, connection - and the efficacy of the work is just as rewarding and effective online as it is in person.
I'm grateful that working online allows me to work with clients from right across the UK.
NB You will need privacy and no interruptions during the session and if this isn’t possible then online therapy won’t be suitable for you.
About me and my therapy practice
If you’ve got to the point where you are actively searching for a therapist on this directory, it probably means that you have reached a place in life where the challenges that you are facing have become all encompassing and are starting to interfere with everyday life. You may feel stuck or overwhelmed, have lost the meaning or pleasure in life, or want to make changes but just don’t know how.
❓Firstly, why seek therapy with me?
👥 I don’t use flowery language or jargon, but offer my 15 years of experience and continual professional development to help you navigate the difficulties you are facing with empathy, expertise and humour.
❓Isn’t therapy just for people to talk with the therapist just nodding along sympathetically?
👥Not at all. As you talk I’ll be listening carefully for the ‘story beneath the story’ - your thought patterns, the way you relate to others, how you communicate, how you view yourself and the world around you, past experience and current context.
❓What’s the difference to talking to a friend?
👥 I have the advantage of a completely neutral perspective and total confidentiality- you can speak openly without worrying about being judged or compromising others.
❓We can’t change other people so what’s the point?
👥 That’s true but we can explore your part in relationship dynamics, improve communication skills and reassess boundaries.
❓Doesn’t therapy just keep you stuck going over old ground?
👥 The psychodynamic aspect of therapy means that we do explore how the present is influenced by past experiences. This isn’t about blame or regret, but understanding yourself and the context of your experience.
🌍 Therapy may seem self indulgent when there are so many awful things going on in the world?
❎ When we think of trauma we tend to think of extreme events. But emotional, physical and relational adverse experiences can have an equally devastating personal impact. I can help you navigate and process these, and move forward feeling stronger and more hopeful.
Practice description
Stress and adversity can arise for all kinds of reasons. During our sessions, we can explore every aspect of your life - both external stress factors ie the things that tend to be out of our control, and internal stress factors ie the things that we do have some control over (or can influence in some way).
External (unavoidable) stress factors:
📍Chronic stress due to work pressures or family responsibilities.
📍Other people’s behaviour/difficult people.
📍Significant life changes and milestones.
📍Ill health.
📍Caring duties.
📍Loss and grief.
📍Racism and discrimination.
📍World politics and news.
Internal stress factors:
📌Personality traits - eg perfectionism, high functioning anxiety, impulsiveness.
📌Overthinking, worry and rumination.
📌The all or nothing thinking associated with anxiety or depression.
📌A harsh inner critic/low self esteem.
📌Poor emotional regulation.
📌Poor boundaries.
📌People pleasing/too much emphasis on what others think.
↔️ External and internal stress can be complimentary eg How hard we work may determine our success. How much we go out of our way to please and care for people may make us invaluable. Overthinking and worrying may help us feel in control. Keeping quiet may help us avoid conflict.
❎ But we can often inadvertently make external stress even more difficult to manage due to these very thought processes and behaviours. Over performing in every aspect of life so that it becomes exhausting. Trying to feel in control of everything. All or nothing thinking. Walking on eggshells so as not to upset people.
Therapy can be a good place to feel supported in navigating difficult times, whilst understanding the ways in which we may be exacerbating adversity.
I don’t try to ‘change’ my clients and I can’t change what they are going through. But often saying things out loud, feeling heard, ordering your thoughts, small changes and a new perspective can take the pressure off when life feels difficult or unfair.
My first session
I offer a free introductory 20 minute phone call or Zoom session where we can get to learn a little more about each other and whether I would be a good fit as your therapist.
Once we’ve booked in an initial session, I will send you a confirmation and my client contract which goes into more detail about cancellation, confidentiality and the way that I work.
After that, you can book sessions in as you go along. There is no obligation to book a certain number of sessions. Some clients see me weekly, others fortnightly and later on perhaps monthly. Many of my clients are long term and often return periodically over the years to help them navigate a difficult time or a specific issue.
I am flexible in terms of days and times, you don’t have to stick to a specific slot each week.
Sessions cost £75 for an hour payable by bank transfer on the day of the session.
