Welcome to my therapy practice! I currently have some availability Monday - Thursday.
I am a BACP-accredited neurodivergent Counsellor, Psychotherapist, Clinical Supervisor and EMDR Practitioner that specialises in therapy for autistic, ADHD and AuDHD and otherwise neurodivergent adults. I have extensive experience and an MA focused on therapeutic work with neurodivergent people. My clients may be navigating burnout, trauma, and overwhelm, and the therapy I offer is adapted to how your brain works.
I offer trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirmative counselling and psychotherapy for autistic, AuDHD, ADHD, otherwise neurodivergent, and highly sensitive individuals. I also provide consultative clinical supervision for qualified and trainee counsellors using the Seven Eyed Model.
I have been offering one to one counselling and doing group work with neurodivergent people since 2012 and my Master's research was about working therapeutically with neurodivergent people.
You might be:
- Exhausted from masking but unsure who you are underneath
- Functioning on the outside, but overwhelmed inside
- Experiencing shutdowns, burnout, or emotional flooding
- Late-diagnosed (or questioning) and trying to make sense of your life
- Feeling like therapy hasn’t worked for you before
My approach specialises in:
Autistic burnout therapy- ADHD overwhelm & emotional regulation
- Late diagnosis (autism / ADHD / AuDHD)
- Working with Highly Sensitive People
- Masking, identity & self-trust
- Trauma in neurodivergent adults
- Shutdowns, meltdowns & nervous system overwhelm
I offer a warm, collaborative, relational and down to earth. Offering a deeply validating space focused on self understanding and nervous system regulation. Many people may have experienced therapy previously that has meant that they feel misunderstood in therapy, pathologised, rather than supported, like they were "too much" or "not enough". My work centres on creating a space where you don't have to perform or translate for yourself.
About me and my therapy practice
Neurodiversity-Affirmative Therapy . I offer a calm, collaborative supportive, authentic space where you can talk things through at your own pace & begin to find your way forward. We’ll explore what’s been troubling you at a pace that's right for you. I bring both professional understanding & lived experience of neurodiversity. I offer sessions online or by phone.
My work is both neurodiversity affirming and trauma informed, grounded in Person Centred Theory, respecting that you are the expert on your own life. During my voluntary work with an autism charity in 2012, I became curious about how other therapists worked with neurodivergent clients and had already adapted my own approach to make therapy more accessible. This included paying attention to sensory needs and the physical environment, using visual and creative methods, being aware of communication style and adapting this as appropriate, offering psychoeducation, and weaving in clients’ special interests where helpful.
In 2015, I explored this further through my Master’s research, which examined therapists’ experiences of working with neurodivergent people using a methodology called Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis.
My passion is in supporting neurodivergent and highly sensitive adults and families and those experiencing grief, loss, or life transitions.
My style is down to earth and I draw on creative, visual, and psychoeducational approaches to meet each person’s unique needs. Above all, I aim to provide a safe, accepting space where you can explore what matters most to you.
Outside of work, I have a neurodivergent family. I enjoy music, films, documentaries, reading, and nurturing my ever growing plant collection (with mixed results!). I also love museums, art, nature walks, meditating, enjoying time with my Tibetan singing bowl (great for regulation), and walking the family dog, a fluffy Goldendoodle. My curiosity about people and the world keeps me continually learning.
Practice description
I work online and over the telephone.
My Professional Approach - I believe in creating a safe and confidential space to allow you to explore any issues that you wish to bring to therapy.
My approach is warm, sincere, caring, and non-judgemental. I maintain my expertise through a minimum of 30 hours of continuing professional development annually. I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework, ensuring client-centred care. I am fully insured and I am BACP accredited.
Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy
A safe, respectful space where you’re heard at your own pace. Trauma-informed psychotherapy recognises how stressful or overwhelming experiences can affect the mind, body, and relationships. Instead of asking “What’s wrong with you?” I ask: “What happened to you?” and “What do you need now?”
This approach prioritises safety, choice, collaboration, and empowerment. It respects your boundaries, focuses on strengths and resilience, and avoids revisiting overwhelming details unless you choose to share them. You remain in control of what you share and how sessions unfold.
Who can benefit?
Trauma-informed therapy can support people who feel anxious or overwhelmed, struggle with trust or emotional regulation, have hard-to-explain stress responses, or want to better understand their reactions and build healthier coping skills.
Common Reasons Clients Seek Support
You might come to therapy to address challenges like these:
• Building self-awareness, confidence, or assertiveness
• Processing loss, break-ups, redundancy, or past issues
• Managing depression, anxiety, loneliness, or feeling stuck
• Improving relationships, communication, social skills, or family conflicts
• Exploring identity, purpose, sexuality, or work-life stresses
I offer a half price exploratory 50-minute exploratory consultation to determine if we're a good fit to work with each other. These are charged at £40 before 5pm and £45 after 5pm.
My first session
In the first appointment - This gives space for us to ask questions we may have. It will be an opportunity for you to say what brings you to therapy and to discuss your expectations. I will ask about your presenting issues (what brings you to seek therapy) and I will ask about any previous therapy you may have had and how you found the experience. It would be really helpful for me to understand your expectations and what you are hoping to gain from therapy. I can explain about the process and the practicalities of working with me. I am open to questions in the first appointment. I have a website: emmawestoncounselling.com which may give you some information about me, but if there is anything further you would like to know, please feel free to ask in our first appointment.
I prioritise emotional, psychological and physiological safety, moving at a pace that feels safe, manageable and collaborative. I pay attention to the body and nervous system, supporting regulation rather than pushing for disclosure or “deep work” too quickly
After our first appointment - If you would like to book some sessions, I tend to book in blocks of 6 and appointments will usually take place on the same day and at the same time each week. I usually do a review at session 4, and if clients continue beyond session 6, I usually do regular reviews. Some people choose to reduce their appointments down to fortnightly or monthly, depending on needs and circumstances.
Counselling sessions are offered online or over the phone, allowing you to access support from the comfort and safety of your own home or another private space. This way of working offers greater flexibility, as there is no need to factor in travel, and sessions can often fit more easily around a lunch break or after work. I tend to have very limited evening availability, the few spaces I have are often booked with a waiting list.

Neurodiversity-Affirmative Therapy
