About me and my therapy practice
I am a BACP accredited Integrative Counsellor based in Gloucestershire. I have over 13 years experience working with adults, both at Gloucestershire Counselling Service and in private practice. Before this I worked on psychiatric inpatient units in Bristol.
I work with individuals to explore a wide range of issues including, but not limited to: anxiety, depression, loss, bereavement, relationship difficulties, historic and recent trauma, sexual abuse and domestic abuse.
I offer a space where you can express yourself freely and, together, we can be curious about what underpins these feelings. Through acknowledging our true feelings and understanding ourselves it is possible to bring about meaningful change in our lives.
I offer short-term and long-term Counselling and Narrative Exposure Therapy to adults. My priority is to provide a safe, confidential space where issues can be explored without judgement.
Practice description
I offer two types of therapy: Counselling and Narrative Exposure Therapy.
Counselling
Counselling can offer a safe space to explore the things that matter to you, to reflect and to make decisions. I draw on person-centred and psychodynamic approaches in order to provide the right support for you. I offer a warm, confidential, non-judgmental space in which you can explore any issues you wish to bring. I respect what you uniquely bring to counselling and will support you in finding your own way forward rather than giving you advice.
Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET)
NET is a trauma-focused short-term psychotherapeutic intervention. It is suitable for individuals who have experienced multiple and complex trauma, and who may have PTSD. NET sessions are 90 minutes long and usually take place over 12-14 weeks. I am very happy for you to contact me if you want to find out more and feel this way of working may be useful for you. You can also find information about NET here: www.net-institute.org/whatisnet.
My first session
I offer a free initial 20 minute consultation over the phone for all clients. Do send me an email if you would like to arrange this.
Counselling: Our first meeting will form a 50 minute assessment session. During this session, we can discuss what has brought you to counselling as well as your hopes and expectations. I hope this will also give you a chance to ask questions and consider whether counselling will be helpful for you. All subsequent counselling sessions are 50 minutes long.
Narrative Exposure Therapy: In our first session we will have up to 60 minutes in which we can discuss the process of NET and complete the initial checklists. Subsequent NET sessions are 90 minutes long.
