About me and my therapy practice
You may be struggling at the moment and wondering how to cope. I am here to lend you support until you to cope without my help. I work with adults and am passionate about helping those struggling with mental health issues, such as anxiety, stress, depression. I also specialise in supporting clients experiencing bereavement.
You may also be wondering if I know enough and have enough experience to be able to help you. I qualified as a person centred counsellor in March 2013, and have been evolving my practice ever since. I took on further study and graduated from the University of Roehampton in 2017 with a BA(Hons) degree in integrative counselling, meaning, rather than being purely person-centred, I can work in a Cognitive Behavioural style (CBT), or use what we call a multiplicity approach with Internal Family Systems (IFS) – a fairly new method of therapy that works particularly well for trauma. I am now a IFS Level 1 trained counsellor.
I see clients through BUPA, Betterhelp and have just started working as an Anxiety UK therapist. My specialist area is bereavement where I have much experience of helping people face different types of loss, and have further qualifications in this area. I also offer sessions by telephone, and can make home visits if required.
Currently my clients contact me after reading my website or seeing my profile on this platform, or they are referred by their GP, or private healthcare company.
Counselling can feel daunting and exposing, and can sometimes feel worse before it feels better. It can be helpful if you have additional support outside of the counselling room.
Another important aspect to consider is, am I qualified to provide the right kind of support for you? Do check out my website and read some of the testimonials there.
Practice description
ADAPT counselling is about change. The name ADAPT came to me because I thought that this is what counselling is all about. You move from where you are now, to somewhere better, with my help. The sessions last for 50 minutes, and you can opt for as many as you need. We will constantly review these together.
I offer an initial (no obligation) consultation (cost £40), to see whether we are a good fit. I also support 3 student counsellors, who are offering discounted rates. Should you wish this, we will meet with you together, just to ensure you are happy to proceed to counselling. (It is really important you feel a connection to your therapist, which is why we offer this as an additional service initially).
There are 10 concrete steps to access my office. However, there is a lift available during office hours. I try and make the environment as much like a welcoming living room as possible, and not like a clinician's office. We see far too many of these when we are distressed.
There is also one allocated private car parking space for 'Haverhill Counselling'. This is available should you need it, or there is a local Tescos 5 minutes' walk away.
My first session
This session is an initial consultation (Cost £40). There will be some paperwork to complete (which doesn't usually take place during a counselling session). There will be an opportunity for us to meet, for you to ask questions, and to see whether we think counselling with ADAPT will be the best fit.
