About me and my therapy practice

So many counsellors and which one to choose? Coming to the decision to seek counselling can be a challenging one, and a bit daunting when looking at all the different profiles. What I feel I am able to offer is a warm and reassuring presence and my aim is to make those first steps as stress free as possible. I am a fully qualified and experienced counsellor and supervisor and have experience of working with a wide range of issues; anxiety, depression, bereavement, anger, stress, family break ups, self-confidence, disassociation. I believe that having the time and space to explore your thoughts, feelings and concerns, a space that is non-judgmental, objective and confidential can be the first steps in understanding why we might be feeling the feelings we have and to begin to make sense of them. Please either email me one counsellingwithkirsti@gmail.com or ring me on 07422504578.

My first session

What to expect in our first initial session

When you feel that you are ready to come for an initial first session, we will arrange a time for us to meet. I will email you instructions and directions on how to find me.

I feel an initial session is an important session for us to have, it gives us the opportunity to meet, for you to get a sense of whether you feel comfortable speaking with me. I believe that the relationship between you and I is key to how beneficial the counselling can be, as it is important that you feel free to say what it is you need to say, to bring all your thoughts, feelings and concerns and to have the space to be able to explore and to know that you are being heard, accepted without judgement.

After the initial session, you a under no obligation to continue working with me - the choice needs to be right for you.

If you do decide that you would like to come to counselling with me, I suggest that we agree an initial block of 6 sessions and then to review after this point. Having a block and a commitment of an initial 6 sessions allows us to commit to the counselling process. At the 6th session we will review where we are and discuss whether you feel that this number of sessions have enabled you to explore and say what you have needed and we can draw it to a close. However, you may feel that having additional sessions would be beneficial then we can agree to this and continue our counselling sessions.

I do charge for an initial sessions and the fee for an initial session is £25.

About me and my therapy practice

I believe that supervision offers a place for reflection for you and your work, where you can feel heard and supported. My aim is to hold and cultivate, with you, a space where we can develop a working alliance between yourself and me; where you feel comfortable and supported so you are able to bring all of your clinical work; the work that you are proud of and the work where you feel there has been a level of challenge and curiosity; nurturing an environment where there is the potential for growth and inquiry. I aim to actively listen and engage in your therapeutic development and growth while remaining and encouraging a place of stability and consistency.

I adhere to the BACP Ethical framework and will hold this as part of the container to work with you, to maintain and the professional standards so that you and your clients will be able to feel you/they are receiving the best possible and professional therapeutic support possibly.

I value each person as an individual and appreciated and support each individuals therapeutic style while maintaining the professional boundaries of the therapeutic training, qualifications and competency.

Over the years I have received quality supervision which has supported me both on a personal and professional level.

Supervision is fundamental when working within the therapeutic field. Not only as a requirement by regulatory bodies such as BACP or UKCP but also as a means to support you as the therapist.

I hold a Level 6 Professional Diploma in Therapeutic Supervision and have worked with Robin Shohet, author of 'Supervision in the Helping Professions'.

My first session

I offer and initial supervision session. This is a 45min session and offers the opportunity to meet me and for you to get a sense of how I work. All initial sessions take place online. This is predominantly because the session is a slightly short session and also that, since the pandemic, I believe it is useful to have the flexibility of working online or in person. In our session we will discuss your preference between online or in person session.

Initial supervision sessions are £25.

I look forward to hearing from you, warm wishes Kirsti

Going forward, I offer one hour, an hour and a half session; fortnightly or monthly and top up sessions.
