Online supervision and counselling work

About me and my therapy practice

I am a BACP accredited counsellor, clinical supervisor, lecturer, and mental health practitioner with over 19 years’ experience supporting children, young people, families, and professionals across schools, charities, and higher education. I am currently studying for an MSc in Psychology, strengthening my academic and clinical understanding of mental health and human development.

I currently work as a remote counsellor for Bupa, and hold a private practice working online with counselling clients and supervisee’s. Please contact me for more information.

My therapeutic approach is Pluralistic, integrating creative therapies, play, and flexible, relational practice. I have a particular interest in early attachment, childhood illness, and the ways these experiences shape emotional development. I hold an MA in Counselling Children and Young People from the University of Nottingham, where my research explored factors influencing boys’ engagement with therapy.

I currently supervise counsellors in my private practice, my supervision style is reflective, authentic, and grounded in Trauma Informed Practice. I focus on maintaining ethical, high quality therapy, preventing vicarious trauma, and supporting counsellors’ wellbeing. I manage referrals, match assessments to counsellor capability, oversee caseloads, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Alongside my clinical work, I have lectured on the Counselling degree and BA at Stockton Riverside College. With a PGCE and strong grounding in research, I design and deliver engaging curricula, teach both in person and online, mentor trainee’s, and mark academic work to a high standard. My teaching is informed by extensive experience in safeguarding, equity, diversity, inclusion, implicit bias, and cultural influences on adolescent development.

Practice description

I work online via teams

I began my career in 2007 as a school based therapist in East Cleveland, supporting students, families, and staff with anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, and complex safeguarding concerns. I regularly contributed to multi agency meetings and advocated for young people’s autonomy and rights under Gillick competence, working systemically with families wherever possible.

In 2011, I established a counselling service in an ethnically diverse Northwest school, gaining valuable insight into cultural and social influences on young people’s mental health. Since 2019, I have also worked with The Anna Freud Centre as a Schools Engagement Trainer and certified YAM instructor, delivering the LINK Programme, Senior Mental Health Lead Training, and contributing to a UK YAM pilot.

My therapeutic approach is Pluralistic, meaning I draw on the many different therapeutic approaches I have learnt over the years, integrating the ones that work! Everyone is different, brains are complex, and we all respond to different interventions- I will work closely with you to find out what kind of therapy works for you. I have a lot of experience of working with neurodiversity and I believe I have something to learn from every client I talk to, and that know which approach works best for them. I am an ADHD coach and can help to broaden your understanding of yourself. I currently supervise counsellors in my private practice, my supervision style is reflective, authentic, and grounded in Trauma Informed Practice. I have worked with Macmillan to help Oncology clients living with cancer or recovering from cancer, and with adult clients experiencing work related stress and burn out. Self compassion, boundaries for self-care and coping skills to increase resilience are key to my work.

Alongside my clinical work, I have lectured on the Counselling degree and BA at Stockton Riverside College. I have a lot of experience in adapting traditional counselling to meet neurodivergent client’s needs, the process of diagnosis and the difficulties that they may have experienced in life.
