About me and my therapy practice
I work integratively using mainly a Person Centered and Cognative Behavioural approach. I do my best to adapt my way of working to my client’s needs and their presenting issue. I will sometimes use pen and paper, buttons, mood cards or similar tools to help my clients identify their feelings and emotions. If I feel it necessary I will challenge clients about their perceptions and thinking.
Practice description
I believe it is vital that my clients feel safe, trusted and understood, as it is the relationship between the counsellor and client that research states promotes therapeutic change.
My first session
After being contacted by email, I will reply to ask for convenient times for me to give them a phone call so that we can discuss things further. During the phone call we can both assess if I am the right counsellor for them. During the first session, or by email prior to our first session, I will ask my client to approve my contract. The contract is designed to keep us both safe. It gives details of where the client can complain to, confidentiality (and its limits), and information about contactability.

About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Janet and I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and Counselling Supervisor (at least I hope so otherwise I'm on the wrong web site). I have been a qualified Counsellor for 16 and a Counselling Supervisor for 14 years. Like many others in my profession, I chose to train as a Counsellor because of personal traumas, problems and dilemmas which were sometimes very difficult to cope with.
There are times in our lives when we all feel unable to cope, are stressed, unhappy or depressed. We may have suffered abuse, divorce, work problems, bereavement, stress, anxiety, trauma or serious illness. Occasionally we may have difficult decisions to make, or are worrying about health or relationship issues. Sometimes, we have difficulty coping with change or we simply need someone to talk to who is not a family member or friend.
I firmly believe that counselling helps us to find a hidden strength, and an inner resilience that enables us to cope with the most distressing problems and circumstances in our lives.
I have experience of therapy and understand how nerve racking it is to take that first step. Fear of the unknown and talking about our innermost thoughts and feelings to a complete stranger can be very scary. However, counselling can help by providing a non-judgmental, professional and supportive relationship in privacy and with confidentiality, enabling exploration of our feelings and to find ways of coping. It is my conviction that a genuine, ethical and therapeutic relationship enhances our ability to make changes to our lives, and to our emotional well-being, thereby enabling us to discover a deeper understanding of ourselves and an improvement to our self esteem.
Every client is unique and therefore therapy is tailored to individual needs.

About me and my therapy practice
Hi my name is Janet and I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and Counselling Supervisor who has had lots of (what has often been traumatic) life experience.
The approach I use in Supervision is Developmental and Person Centred, and have been a qualified Supervisor since 2014.
I believe that both Supervisors and Counsellors learn from each other. However, Supervision provides a fresh set of eyes over the complexity of client work whilst providing the Supervisee with the support and confidence to become as proficient and ethical as possible.
The overriding concern for both Counsellor and Supervisor is to provide the best possible therapeutic outcome to the client.
