About me and my therapy practice
I charge £60 per session in person for 3 + sessions (concessions £50).
Single session therapy is £80 per session for one or two sessions.
As a certified Cybertherapist with the Online Therapy Institute I offer online counselling including videoconferencing, email, text, and telephone £50 per session.
Practice description
It is daunting finding a therapist to talk about a personal matter. I offer a confidential space for dialogue where you can bring an issue to mull over or identify goals to work towards within a short or long term framework, even as few as one or two sessions.
Good therapy relies on a good relationship with your therapist and I aim to be approachable and empathic where I take a person-centred approach to you as an individual while drawing on different therapeutic models.
A person centred philosophy prizes personal experience over diagnosis and cure. During an assessment we look at what brings you to therapy, how we can look at dilemma(s) in different ways and work towards your goal within agreed terms. Socratic questioning in the manner of respectful inquiry can lead to greater understanding of the matter at hand.
I have worked in a variety of mental health settings such as the NHS and in charities such as the homeless sector for many years so I can bring wide ranging experience to my private practice.
I have a research interest and training in phenomenological psychology derived from continental/existential philosophy which does not take a pathologizing approach but focuses on dilemmas & problems in living as part and parcel of life, where clarity can emerge through co-examination with another person e.g. BED: bracketing & equalising assumptions, focusing on the descriptive quality of the experience to foster insight. In this vein I have conducted research into the process of getting into and emerging from compulsive behaviours and addictions.
I look forward to the opportunity of working with you.
