About me and my therapy practice
I'm a fully registered psychotherapist with the BACP and UKCP. I have extensive experience of working as a therapist in a variety of settings including the NHS, one to one counselling and therapy, couples therapy, private practice, video and phone call therapy services, a women's domestic abuse counselling service and youth organisations with youth workers and young people.
I've lived overseas and travelled extensively, working with non-profit community and human rights organisations.
I'm inspired by philosophy, art and culture and enjoy working as an existential psychotherapist due to its innate links with these worlds.
Practice description
I offer a variety of different ways for you to engage in psychotherapy, please ask for more information on the different options available to you.
Sessions can take place in person at my practice in Harley Street Central London or Finchley North London or online. I also offer home visits in and around London.
My practice is best described as existential-phenomenological psychotherapy. Existential psychotherapy is a non-directive form of therapy. This means that I believe you are the expert, I do not claim to have any answers that you cannot find yourself, however it can be helpful to be supported in finding these answers and this is where therapy plays a part. As an existential psychotherapist I believe that enabling you to gain increased awareness of yourself and the implications of the choices you make, will lead you to live in a more meaningful and fulfilled way, and this is a main goal of therapy. The work is always collaborative, with me acting as a guide for you to explore what you choose.
Existential psychotherapy is a talking therapy that draws on ideas from existential philosophy. Some central themes that inform my practice are: choice and responsibility, the search for meaning in life, mortality, freedom and relationships with others, ourselves and the natural world. Existential psychotherapists understand that emotional crises are devastating and need help to be resolved, but also believe that resolution can lead to a deeper sense of meaning in life and therefore enhanced well-being and life satisfaction.
My first session
Psychotherapy is a talking therapy; this means that a typical session will consist of dialogue between you and your therapist.
Once you've been in contact and decide you'd like to try talking therapy, I'll invite you for an assessment session. The assessment session will last for 50 minutes. This session is a chance for us to get to know each other and for me to hear about you, and what brings you to seek therapy. Please use this session to gain a sense of my way of working and how you feel about being in the room and in conversation with me. Finding the right therapist is a personal and important choice and you should feel comfortable and safe with the therapist you see.
In this session I'll explain a little about how I work and the practicalities around our sessions such as confidentiality and time keeping. You will be welcome to ask any questions regarding your therapy with me.
In the assessment we'll discuss how many sessions you want. This can be a set time span, set number, or open ended. This decision will be made together and will be informed by many different factors.
