Practice description
Psychodynamic counselling and psychotherapy aim to significantly help our ability to manage our lives more effectively. If you are seeking help to find a better understanding of yourself, others and life events, this is the time to talk to a professionally trained counsellor and psychotherapist who can support you during your time of need to work through your difficulties.
EMDR is an 8 Phased Protocol with the following Phases: Phase 1 A treatment plan is collaboratively created and expectations are addressed. Phase 2 Stabilising skills are installed e.g. ‘safe place’ to use in and outside your sessions. Phase 3 Specific questions are asked about a particular disturbing memory to activate the negative cognition and desired adaptive resolution. Phase 4 Eye Movement (EMs) using various sets of bilateral stimulation are recreated, alternated with brief feedback until the past disturbing experience is adapted to a present perspective an the memory becomes desensitised losing its intensity to a neutral past memory. Phase 5, installation of new perspectives into your daily life. Phase 6 A body Scan works through any residual somatic feelings left over. Phase 7 Closes that memory. Phase 8 Re-evaluates any associated memories that may heal at the same time.
Transference Focused Psychotherapy is designed to help individuals with personality disorders namely BPD and NPD by utilising the relationship between therapist and client to explore and understand the emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. We focuses splitting defences involving seeing things in extremes, all good or all bad, that are used as coping mechanisms for conflicting emotions you find difficult to manage or intolerable. Object relations are identified when they come into the therapeutic relationship to engage the process of working through. The aim is to gain a more integrated cohesive sense of self and identity, promoting emotional stability, psychological growth and healthy ways of relating to oneself and others.
