About me and my therapy practice

I understand that taking the first steps to psychotherapy or counselling can be a daunting prospect especially if you are in distress and/or suffering from anxiety, relationship or family issues, addiction, low self-esteem, depression or any other stresses or concerns, and there may be considerable anxiety about talking to someone new.

I welcome you to contact me by phone or email for an initial enquiry. I aim to respond within 2 days to see if you’d like to arrange a first meeting where I will listen to your concerns and explain how I work therapeutically and if you’d like to continue we can arrange regular ongoing weekly sessions.

I believe the quality of the client-counsellor/therapist is the most important experience in therapy, indeed essential to a positive outcome. I hope to build a therapeutic relationship with you that is supportive, trusting, genuine and provides a caring, respectful, safe, secure and confidential place for you to talk openly with someone who is neutral and non-judgemental.

I offer face-to-face and online short-term or long-term therapy to individuals or couples seeking help. I also offer supervision to trainees and qualified practitioners, do contact me for more information.

Qualifications:

BA Psychology (University of Exeter)

Post-Graduate Diploma Psychotherapy & Counselling (Regents College 2012)

Advanced Diploma Integrative Psychotherapy (Regents University 2015)

OCN Certificate in Counselling Supervision (2020)

Certificate in Working with Couples & Other Relationships (2022)

I am a Member of BACP and a Registered Psychotherapist with UKCP and follow their Professional Codes of Ethics.

Practice description

I work as an Integrative Psychotherapist and this means that I draw on a number of different strands of psychotherapy but am most influenced by psychodynamic ways of understanding distress. This broadly means that I will explore with you how the past may be affecting you in the present, how early attachment might influence current relationships and the defences you may have developed to protect yourself. I will create a unique way of working depending upon your needs as the individual client, but always based upon building a deep and trusting collaborative relationship and using this as a supportive platform to explore concerns.

I believe the quality of the client-counsellor/therapist is the most important experience in therapy, indeed essential to a positive outcome. I hope to build a therapeutic relationship with you that is supportive, trusting, and genuine and which provides a caring, respectful, safe, secure and confidential place for you to talk openly with someone who is neutral and non-judgemental. My style is open, warm, approachable and supportive.

My first session

I offer an initial 50 min session which gives you a chance to explain your concerns, and for me to take some biographical details. I can explain how I work and you may ask me any questions. This session is an opportunity for us to see how we feel together and if it would be beneficial to continue to work together.

I take notes in this initial session, and this is more of a 'fact-finding' session than ongoing ones.

There is no obligation to continue and I suggest that after this session you take some time to reflect and to decide if you wish to continue.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a fully qualified Integrative psychotherapist registered with both the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and the UKCP (United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapists).

I trained at Regents University, School of Psychotherapy and Psychology. I also have experience of working both long term and time-limited with clients with drug/alcohol & other addictions as well as in the charity and Higher Education sectors. I work with clients from all backgrounds, cultures, races, beliefs and sexualities.

I am a qualified and experienced Supervisor for both trainees and qualified counsellors/psychotherapists. I offer one to one sessions either online or in Bembridge and can be flexible with timings.

I offer online sessions for supervision.

Qualifications

BA Psychology (University of Exeter)

Post-Grad Diploma Psychotherapy & Counselling (Regents University 2012)

Advanced Diploma Integrative Psychotherapy (Regents University 2015)

OCN Certificate in Counselling Supervision (2020)

I am committed to on-going professional development and training and I subscribe to and am guided by the UKCP and the BACP codes of ethics for good practice, which includes my own continuing supervision.

Practice description

I believe that supervision is a collaboration between supervisor and supervisee. I believe that supervision should be supportive, which might include helping the supervisee to develop reflective thinking, encouraging responsibility and challenging when necessary. I also believe that empathy and having an understanding of both the supervisee's and client's processes is very important for a beneficial supervisory relationship.

I provide a confidential space for counsellors and psychotherapists to discuss their client work as well as the processes which may be encountered within the triad of client-counsellor/therapist-supervisor.

I am able to provide reports or other admin if required by trainees but these need to be discussed in advance.

My first session

I suggest an initial session of at least 50 minutes to discuss possible supervision requirements.

This allows you to explain what you expect from supervision, and for me to explain how I work. We can discuss both our modalities of working and your client group and see if this seems compatible. This is also an opportunity to discuss and collaborate on a good working agreement. This might include a detailed contract regarding practicalities such as frequency of meetings and venue, timing of sessions, missed sessions, holidays, emergency arrangements etc.
