About me and my therapy practice
My therapy practice is client centred - I am first and foremost an approachable and empathetic practitioner. I am knowledgable, non-judgemental, impartial, non-biased....and kind!
In my other careers I worked for many years in the NHS in a variety of public facing roles which included supporting bereaved relatives and another managing complaints from anxious patients or their families. Additionally I held senior positions in charities supporting those with a variety of disabilities. In my spare time I volunteered for a national suicide help line and as a bereavement visitor. These experiences have made me sympathetic and passionate about helping those less fortunate.
I trained to be a counsellor through Relate gaining Post Graduate Certificates in Couple Counselling from the University of East London, in Family Counselling from the University of Hull and in Psycho-sexual Therapy also from the University of Hull
I am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and of the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT).
I am in Supervision, undertake regular CPD training and am fully insured.
Practice description
Firstly together we will explore your sexual problem, when it started and how it affects you. Then I will explain how the programme works and, if you meet the criteria of those who will benefit from psychosexual therapy, I will tailor a treatment plan for you. This usually involves a series of exercises which you do at home in your own time. You go at your own pace, I will never push you to do anything you don't want to do. Over many years I have helped endless couples to enjoy new found connections and confidence with each other.
If, as a couple, you need help with general relationship issues, if you argue a lot, if you have lost that emotional intimacy, if communication is a struggle, I can help you to try to make sense of what's going on. We can work together towards better understanding or find some strategies to deal with those difficult days. Sometimes couples are unsure whether they can stay together, counselling can help when there is confusion
Maybe it's family problems which are causing a rift - any family members, any number of participants can come along to Family Counselling. I can support everyone to feel listened to, to maybe improve communication between parents and children or siblings. I understand that there are significant times in life which put stress onto any family - separation, bereavement or maybe issues which have been buried from many years ago.
Some individuals may struggle with the demands of everyday life I help adults and young people (11+years) to make sense of their feelings of anxiety and sadness possibly due to work or exam stresses, friendships or bereavement
