About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Julie, and I am passionate about working with people who have experienced abuse or trauma, whether it be sexual, physical or emotional. When we experience trauma we lose part of who we truly are because of the after effects, such as anxiety, depression, panic attacks, flashbacks and dissociation (when we feel distanced from our emotions or ‘spaced out’, as if we’re living on autopilot).
I love helping people rediscover who they really are by creating an environment in which they feel safe and completely accepted. I don't analyse you but with careful listening will know what we need to work on. Where are you closing down or dissociating? When are you making yourself 'small' or compromising yourself, and why?
I have had a lot of training in various subjects such as trauma, spirituality, meditation, ecotherapy, and working with the 'felt sense' of situations (Eugene Gendlin) and so can employ a variety of techniques that can help. I have worked as a trauma counsellor for SARSAS and The Green House (both sexual abuse charities) as well as being a young people’s counsellor for various schools and colleges, and have had training with Barnado’s and NSPCC in delivering a specialist trauma service.
I also enjoy working with people from a spiritual perspective and have a particular interest in the 'Dark Night of the Soul', sudden Kundalini Awakenings and the Twin Flame phenomenon, as they carry the potential for massive personal transformation.. What have you come here to learn in this lifetime? What situations do you keep recreating that you are meant to learn from? What is your purpose?
Wherever you are on your journey, I would love to meet you. Together we will face any challenges and work to empower you, and I will be with you 100% every step of the way.
Practice description
I believe that at the heart of successful therapy is the relationship between therapist and client, and that is at the centre of my work. Therapy can feel like a risky business; essentially you are being asked to change some of the key ways in which you live your life. You’re being asked to engage with life differently; to open up where you were previously hidden, to share things you feel ashamed about, to risk being truly you. So it is absolutely essential that you feel safe and respected, known and liked for who you truly are, and most of all that you really trust your therapist.
I will work really hard to help us achieve a real and open relationship with each other. I don’t hide behind a ‘therapist’ mask or assume that I know more about you than you do because I’m a professional. I will show up as my own authentic, open true self in the hope that you will eventually do that too. As a therapist people say they find me warm, candid, open and real, and that I’m very good at holding difficult emotions with them. I’m also very intuitive and an empath, and can sense a lot that maybe isn’t conscious yet and hasn’t been spoken.
I really hope to meet you soon 😊🙏
My first session
I offer a free half hour introductory session, either online on a Tuesday or at my practice room in Glastonbury, Wednesday to Friday. This is an opportunity for you to tell me a bit about yourself and what you’re looking for, and for you to decide if you’d be comfortable working with me.
