About me and my therapy practice
I offer both short and long-term therapy to individuals and my intention is to help you to find a way forward whatever your issues may be. You will be able to talk about anything in a confidential space, knowing that I will not be judging or criticising you and through this, you will be able to think about new perspectives, new solutions and gain some relief. I am a friendly, calm and warm person.
I am an Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with more than 10 years of experience and have worked in private practice since 2016 so have seen people with a variety of presenting issues and from a range of backgrounds.
I have particular experience in working with people dealing with:
- stress and anxiety
- bereavement and loss
- rape and sexual assault
- childhood abuse
- depression and low self-esteem
Practice description
I am an integrative therapist, which means that I can adapt my way of working to meet your needs, time-frame and personality.
I incorporate Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) which promotes an evolutionary and bio-psycho-social approach. We all have tricky brains that have evolved over time and, through no fault of our own, this can make coping with our thoughts and feelings quite challenging sometimes. We will think about your problems in the light of your specific situation and context. In CFT we try to cultivate a 'Compassionate Mind' that can help us to deal with strong emotions. We will work with imagery and mindfulness and use chairwork and other exercises to explore your feelings and where patterns of behaviour began.
At our first session we will talk about what has brought you to therapy and discuss what you are hoping for and then we can take it from there. I am experienced in working in a short-term way in a local university (for example, 6-8 sessions) and if you are wanting to work on something quite specific we could contract this sort of number of sessions. I find that most people are looking for something more open-ended though, and do not wish to decide the number of sessions right at the beginning. This means that as we work together we will check-in and review regularly around how things are going and whether we are working on the most helpful things for you. Either way is fine.
