About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced Counsellor and Psychotherapist with over 20 years’ practice across the private, public, and voluntary sectors. I trained at St John’s University, York, completed an MA in Counselling Studies at the University of Manchester, and undertook doctoral-level training. This has shaped a thoughtful, grounded, and clinically informed approach to my work.
I support adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, addictions, and relationship difficulties. Many people come to therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or caught in patterns they find difficult to understand or change. Therapy offers a space to step back, make sense of these experiences, and begin to move forward with greater clarity and direction.
My approach is integrative, meaning I draw on a range of therapeutic models to suit your individual needs rather than applying a single method. I work holistically, considering psychological, emotional, behavioural, relational, and, where relevant, spiritual aspects of your experience. I aim to provide a space that is both supportive and appropriately challenging, helping you explore difficulties safely while working towards meaningful, lasting change.
Alongside my counselling work, I bring experience as a family mediator, domestic abuse perpetrator programme facilitator, parenting specialist, and child protection consultant. This broader background allows me to work with complexity, particularly where there are relational or family dynamics involved.
I also have an interest in working with clients from diverse cultural and faith backgrounds, including within Muslim communities. My research in this area informs a culturally sensitive and respectful approach, tailored to your individual needs.
Sessions are collaborative and paced according to you. Some clients come for short-term focused work, while others engage in longer-term therapy to explore deeper patterns. If you are considering therapy, you are welcome to reach out to explore whether this works for you.
Practice description
I offer a calm, confidential, and professional space where you can talk openly about what is affecting you, without judgement. My aim is to help you feel understood while also supporting you to gain clarity and begin to make meaningful changes in your life.
Sessions are structured yet flexible, allowing us to explore your concerns at a pace that feels manageable. I work in a collaborative way, helping you to understand patterns in your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, and how these may be linked to your current difficulties. Alongside insight, we focus on developing practical ways of coping and moving forward.
My approach is integrative and tailored to you. This means I draw on a range of therapeutic models depending on your needs, rather than using a single method. I take a holistic view, considering psychological, emotional, behavioural, relational, and where relevant, spiritual aspects of your experience.
I have experience working with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, addictions, and relationship difficulties. I am also able to work with more complex situations, particularly where there are family, cultural, or interpersonal dynamics involved.
I offer culturally sensitive and respectful support, including for clients from diverse backgrounds and faith perspectives. Therapy is adapted to what matters most to you, and there is no expectation to discuss anything you are not comfortable with.
Sessions are typically 50 minutes and can be offered online or in person. Some clients attend for short-term, focused work, while others engage in longer-term therapy to explore deeper issues.
If you are considering therapy, you are welcome to take the first step and explore whether this feels like the right approach for you.
My first session
The first session is a structured assessment designed to understand your current difficulties and determine how best to support you. It provides an opportunity for us to explore what has brought you to therapy and whether working together feels like the right fit.
During this session, I will ask a series of focused questions to build a clear picture of your presenting concerns, relevant background, and what you would like to achieve from therapy. This may include exploring current symptoms, patterns in thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, and any contributing life experiences. You are free to share at your own pace, and there is no expectation to disclose anything before you feel ready.
Where appropriate, I will begin to identify key themes or patterns and offer initial reflections to help you start making sense of your situation. This process helps establish a shared understanding and informs how we might work together going forward.
We will also discuss practical aspects of therapy, including the approach we may take, likely focus areas, and whether short-term or longer-term work may be most suitable. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about the process and what to expect from ongoing sessions.
By the end of the session, you will have a clearer understanding of your situation, how therapy may help, and whether you feel comfortable to continue. Sessions are typically 50 minutes and are offered online or in person. Fees and practical arrangements are agreed in advance.
I tend to work best with clients who are ready to engage in a thoughtful and committed therapeutic process.
