About me and my therapy practice

There are times in life when things can become difficult to navigate. You may be feeling anxious, low or overwhelmed, facing a significant change, struggling with relationships or loss, or perhaps simply have a sense that something doesn’t feel quite right.

I believe you are the expert in your own life. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to work alongside you with compassion, curiosity and respect, helping you to make sense of what you are experiencing and explore what matters to you.

I work integratively, which means I tailor counselling to you rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. My work is grounded in Person-Centred and Psychodynamic Therapy, and I also draw on CBT, Transactional Analysis and Solution-Focused approaches. I am a trained Mindfulness teacher and, where helpful and if it feels right for you, may also incorporate creative, imagery-based or somatic approaches.

I bring over 20 years’ counselling experience across the NHS, Relate, Psychology Associates, universities, schools and charitable settings. Alongside my private practice, I currently work within a Macmillan/NHS cancer support service, counselling people and families affected by cancer.

I work with adults and young people and am also a trained couples therapist. I am a qualified Clinical Supervisor and offer individual supervision to counsellors and therapists.

Practice description

I offer a calm, confidential and supportive space where you can press pause, breathe and feel heard. You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to talk about or where to begin. We can take time to understand what feels important to you and work at a pace that feels manageable.

The relationship we build is an important part of the work. I aim to offer a space where you can speak openly and be yourself, without judgement. At times I may gently offer observations, questions or a different perspective, while always respecting your experience and your choices.

Counselling can be a place to understand yourself more deeply, notice patterns or ways of relating that may no longer serve you, and explore possibilities for change. It can also simply provide space to think and feel when life has become difficult or complicated.

Some people come with something specific they would like to work through, while others find that what they need becomes clearer as counselling develops. Our work can be relatively short-term and focused, or continue for longer where this feels helpful.

I offer individual counselling for adults and young people, as well as couples counselling. Sessions are available in person in Plymouth and online where appropriate.

My first session

Starting counselling can feel like a big step, particularly if you have not had counselling before.

Before arranging a first session, I offer a free, informal 30-minute telephone or video conversation. This gives you an opportunity to tell me a little about what has brought you to counselling, ask any questions and get a sense of whether I might be the right counsellor for you. There is no obligation to continue.

If we decide to work together, our first full session gives us more time to explore what is happening for you and what you would like from counselling. We can also talk about how we might work together, including the frequency of sessions, confidentiality and any practical arrangements.

You don’t need to prepare anything or have everything worked out before you come. There is no “right” way to begin, and you will not be expected to talk about anything before you feel ready.

Most importantly, the first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another and for you to experience what it feels like to work with me.

About me and my therapy practice

Supervision for Counsellors & Therapists

I offer clinical supervision to counsellors and therapists at all stages of practice, from trainees and newly qualified practitioners developing confidence and professional identity, to experienced and colleagues seeking fresh perspectives, thoughtful challenge and greater relational depth.

My approach is relational, pluralistic and depth-oriented. I aim to offer supervision that is both reflective and practical — a collaborative space where you can bring uncertainty, complexity and difficult work without judgement, while also recognising what is going well.

Supervision may include exploring the therapeutic relationship, countertransference and use of self, ethical dilemmas, difficult emotional responses, and questions around meaning, values and professional identity.

I draw flexibly on Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, CBT, TA and Transpersonal approaches and use the Seven-Eyed Model to consider different dimensions of therapeutic work. Where helpful, we may also work creatively or somatically to open up different perspectives.

I bring over 20 years’ counselling experience across the NHS, Relate, private practice, universities and schools. I currently provide reflective supervision to NHS oncology support staff and have previously provided professional supervision through Psychology Associates.

Education is a particular area of experience: I have established school counselling services and worked alongside safeguarding and child protection teams. I equally welcome practitioners from private practice, health and other organisational settings.

I hold an Advanced Diploma in Clinical Supervision (Level 7) and am a BACP Registered and Accredited counsellor.

Practice description

My Supervision Practice

I see supervision as a relationship in which there is room to think, reflect and be curious together. You are welcome to bring work that feels complex, uncertain or unfinished, as well as the moments when something has gone well and you want to understand why.

I value openness, warmth and appropriate challenge. My intention is to create a space where you can think freely about your clients, your therapeutic relationships and your own responses without feeling that you need to arrive with the answers.

For experienced practitioners, supervision can offer an opportunity to work at greater relational depth, notice subtleties within the therapeutic process and explore aspects of practice that may benefit from a fresh pair of eyes.

For trainees and those earlier in their careers, there is space to develop confidence, professional judgement and your own therapeutic voice.

I offer supervision online throughout the UK and in person from a calm, comfortable and private ground-floor space in Stoke, Plymouth.

If you are considering working with me, I offer a free, informal 30-minute telephone or video conversation. This gives us an opportunity to talk about what you are looking for, ask questions and get a sense of whether we might work well together, with no obligation to continue.

My first session

Our First Session

Before beginning supervision, I offer a free, informal 30-minute telephone or video conversation so that we can get to know one another and see whether there is a potential fit.

If we decide to work together, our first full supervision session gives us more time to explore what you are looking for from supervision, your practice and client work, professional context, therapeutic approach and any particular areas where you would value support, challenge or development.

We will also agree the practical and professional aspects of working together and establish our supervision contract, including confidentiality and its limits, responsibilities, frequency of supervision and other professional arrangements.

For qualified practitioners, I ask for details of your professional membership or registration and confirmation that appropriate professional indemnity insurance is in place.

For trainees, we will also consider the requirements of your training provider and placement, including any reporting or supervision requirements.

There is no formal assessment to complete. Most importantly, our first session gives us both an opportunity to experience working together and decide whether the supervisory relationship feels right.

From there, supervision is shaped around you, your client work and the context in which you practise.
