About me and my therapy practice
Thanks for looking at my profile, by coming onto this site - you've taken the first and biggest step - a great start.
I work in both private practice across a couple of sites and also in the voluntary sector with various charities based across the East Midlands. So far, my work has focused on various issues, including: depression, stress, anxiety relationships, all forms of abuse, including sexual, mental and domestic, bereavement, terminal illness.
As well as supporting those with personal issues, I have a keen interest in working with people with work related stress and anxiety concerns. Many of us feel we have to 'just get on with' the pressures that are put on us in the workplace (and sometimes pressures we put on ourselves), with stress accounting for 37%* of work related ill health, learning to cope with those pressures, means a healthier home and working life.
I have experience in face to face, online and telephone counselling, all of which have their place and ultimately its a personal preference. Please call 07715 934228, or email me at philpinchencounselling@gmail.com and we can discuss the next steps.
I am a registered member of BACP.

About me and my therapy practice
So, how do I work with couples? We can discuss what works best for you and your partner and provide an overview of what to expect to be included.
My work with couples is relational and attachment-informed. This means working with how you currently relate to each other and what you would like to change. We pay attention to how each of you learned to relate, protect yourselves, feel safe, and seek closeness.
Rather than focusing on who is right or wrong, because that's something you may not agree on, we can look at it differently together.
I will also help you understand;
how and why you react to each other under stress (and not under stress)
Does one of you push for, or pull away from, closeness and connection? What pattern does this follow?
How often are these patterns repeated, even when neither of you wants them to
We will learn about what might have created these patterns. They are regularly developed for good reasons, and over time, they can leave both partners feeling unseen, unheard, or stuck in roles they no longer want.
In therapy, we will slow things down enough to notice what’s happening between you in the session. To help you notice what happens when we are not together. I will endeavour to give you both equal time and will not favour either of you. Your relationship is my client, and we will work to bring it closer to where you would like it to be.
Practice description
Couples choose counselling for so many different reasons. Perhaps you are tackling a specific challenge. Maybe you don't feel as close as you did and don't understand why; maybe you have considered calling it a day and don't want to accept that, or don't feel you have the strength to do it? Whatever your reasons, we will work through them together
Still unsure? do any of the following sound familiar:
Conversations that quickly turn into arguments or silence
One of you feels more invested, responsible, or worried than the other
Intimacy feels strained, distant, transactional, or unavailable
Resentment has built up, and you often feel it's tit for tat.'
Trust has been damaged, or something important has gone unsaid
You feel more like friends or colleagues than partners
Sometimes, you will have a markedly different experience of the relationship, and a different sense of what needs to change, how urgent it is, and how hopeful it appears. The sessions will give you both the space to express those differences, and rather than smoothing them over, we can explore what lies behind them and how you would prefer they be.
My first session
The time is for shared conversation and for each of you to feel heard. I won’t take sides or just sit and observe. I will actively steer the sessions, offering my reflections, questions, and observations to support understanding and guide you through both the calm and the storms.
Sometimes we can focus on what’s happening right now. Other times, we may explore how past experiences, ongoing life pressures, or differences between you shape where you find yourselves. Whilst there will be no expectation that therapy will lead to a particular outcome, I will assist you in working towards any particular goals you have.
For some couples, counselling helps them reconnect and improve their satisfaction in the relationship. For others, it helps them plan and make decisions for now and the future. It's not about forcing a particular solution, its about honesty and understanding
