About me and my therapy practice

Counselling for Individuals

Hello

I'm Ben, a qualified and experienced counsellor based in Rushden. I work both in person and online with adult individuals and couples.

It might sound odd, but I really enjoy this work! I have a calm, empathic and supportive nature, and so training to become a therapeutic counsellor felt like such a natural path for me to take. I'm interested in people, and feel privileged to be able to support them in trying to make sense of what they are experiencing.

My private practice in Rushden, Northamptonshire NN10 is based in a beautiful garden room that provides a comfortable and confidential space in which to meet. It's just a few minutes from the town centre and Asda, and has spacious off-road parking.

For online counselling I work from this same space, and use Zoom to connect with you wherever you are in the UK.

My approach

My approach is person-centred, which means I won't tell you what you should do or try to fit you into a formula.

Instead, I'll listen carefully to what you're experiencing and work alongside you to explore what's happening beneath the surface.

Together, we can begin to make sense of your thoughts, feelings and experiences, and explore what you might need to move forward.

What you can expect from me

I aim to create a space that feels warm, relaxed and free from judgement.

You don't need to have the right words. You don't need to know exactly what's wrong. And you don't have to talk about anything before you're ready.

My role is to listen, understand and support you as you explore what brought you to counselling.

Practice description

Counselling for Couples

When relationships feel difficult

Relationships can be rewarding, but they can also be complicated. Even strong relationships can go through difficult periods, and sometimes it can feel hard to find a way forward together.

Individual counselling can provide a valuable space to explore relationship difficulties on your own. Couples counselling offers something different: the opportunity for both partners to come together and explore what is happening in the relationship, with the support of an impartial counsellor.

A space to understand each other

Couples counselling can give you the opportunity to talk openly about your feelings, needs and concerns, including the things that may feel difficult to say to each other at home.

My role is not to take sides or decide who is right or wrong. I will respect each of you as an individual, with your own experiences, thoughts, feelings and values, while helping you to listen to and understand one another.

As a person-centred couples counsellor, I will support you both to explore who you are, how you relate to each other and what may be getting in the way of the relationship you want.

Through this process, you may develop a greater understanding of yourselves and each other, communicate more openly and gain greater clarity about what you both want for the future.

The aim isn't to tell you what you should do. It's to create a safe space where you can explore your relationship honestly and decide what feels right for you, whether that means finding a way forward together or understanding what you need to do next.

Could couples counselling help?

Couples counselling may be helpful if you're experiencing:

  • Frequent arguments or conflict
  • Difficulties communicating
  • Feeling disconnected from each other
  • A loss of trust or intimacy
  • The impact of an affair or betrayal
  • Differences in your hopes for the future
  • Difficulties adjusting to major life changes
  • Uncertainty about whether to stay together

My first session

Getting started

We begin with an initial session, giving us the opportunity to meet, talk about what's brought you to counselling and see how it feels to work together.

If you feel comfortable and we're both happy to continue, we can arrange regular sessions from there.

There's no obligation to commit to ongoing counselling after our first session.

About me and my therapy practice

A supportive space to reflect, develop and grow

With a Level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision and over fourteen years of experience as a practising counsellor, I offer clinical supervision to counsellors, psychotherapists and practitioners working across a range of helping professions.

Whether you're a trainee or an experienced practitioner, working in an agency or private practice, I aim to provide a safe, supportive and collaborative space where you can reflect on your work, explore challenges and continue to develop your professional practice.

My approach to supervision

I use the Seven-Eyed Model of supervision to help explore different aspects of the therapeutic relationship and the work you bring to supervision. I work with practitioners from a range of therapeutic modalities and adapt my approach to your individual needs, experience and way of working.

I believe good supervision should provide both support and challenge. It's a space where you can bring difficult cases, uncertainty, questions or concerns about your practice and explore them openly, without judgement.

My aim is to help you develop your confidence, deepen your self-awareness and strengthen your practice, while ensuring that ethical and professional responsibilities remain at the heart of our work together.

Practice description

Supervision for helping professionals

My supervision work extends beyond counselling and psychotherapy to practitioners working in other helping and support roles.

If you're looking for supervision and aren't sure whether my experience is a good fit for your work, please get in touch. I'm happy to discuss your needs and explore whether I can offer the support you're looking for.

What you might bring to supervision

  • A client you're finding difficult to understand
  • A session that hasn't gone as you'd hoped
  • Strong feelings or reactions arising from your work
  • Questions about boundaries, ethics or professional practice
  • Feeling stuck or uncertain with a client
  • Exploring the challenges of working within an agency or managing your own private practice
  • The impact of your work on your own wellbeing
  • Anything you're unsure about or would like space to think through

Fees

Individual supervision

£75 for the first hour, then £20 for each additional 30 minutes.

Group supervision

Group supervision rates are agreed on a case-by-case basis, depending on the size of the group and your requirements.

Looking for a supervisor?

Choosing a supervisor is an important decision. I welcome an initial conversation to discuss your work, what you're looking for from supervision and whether we might be a good fit.
