About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Kathryn, an Accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, Accredited CBT Therapist, and EMDR Therapist. I offer a free 10–15 minute telephone or online consultation so we can explore what brings you to therapy and how I may be able to help.

I work with adults experiencing trauma, PTSD and complex PTSD, OCD, attachment and relationship difficulties, anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, as well as a range of other emotional challenges. I also look to support those with neurodivergency-related challenges which are impacting their emotional wellbeing.

Many of the people I work with feel stuck and want change. Together, we can explore what may be contributing to how you feel, whether through understanding past experiences or focusing on current challenges. My aim is to support you in developing new ways of coping, processing emotional difficulties and improving your sense of self.

I also offer Couples Counselling, providing a supportive space to explore your relationship and decide together what changes feel right for you both.

With over 19 years’ experience, I offer a relaxed, supportive therapeutic relationship for both short- and long-term work. I use an integrative approach, drawing on CBT, EMDR, TA and Psychotherapeutic Counselling to tailor therapy to your individual needs. This allows us to work flexibly, focusing on what is most helpful for you—whether that is understanding the past, managing current difficulties or developing healthier coping strategies.

My aim is to help you feel understood, increase self-awareness, and make meaningful changes at your own pace in a supportive, non-judgemental space.

Qualifications:

BACP Accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, 2009

BABCP Accredited CBT Therapist, 2011

EMDR Therapist, 2017

Certificate in Couples Counselling, 2019

I am based in the Gosforth/Kenton area of Newcastle upon Tyne and work with adults aged 18+. Sessions are offered in person only.

Practice description

I aim to create a relaxed, supportive therapy environment where you feel as comfortable as possible, as I understand how daunting starting therapy can feel. Building a trusting therapeutic relationship is central to the work, and I value openness and collaboration throughout the process.

We will work together as a team to explore your goals and what you would like to change. I welcome feedback at any stage, as this helps ensure therapy remains helpful, relevant and tailored to your needs.

I offer both short- and long-term therapy, depending on what you're looking for. Some people prefer focused, shorter-term work around specific difficulties, while others benefit from longer-term therapy to explore deeper patterns and experiences over time.

Sessions are guided by your pace and what feels most manageable for you, with the aim of helping you develop insight, build coping strategies, and make meaningful and lasting change.

Appointments are available Tuesday to Friday, 9.30am–3.00pm.

My first session

In our first session, we will explore what has brought you to therapy and what you are hoping to change or achieve. I believe it is important to understand not only what is feeling difficult right now, but also what you would like life to look and feel like instead, so we can begin to think about how therapy may support you.

An important part of the first session is also establishing a clear therapy agreement. This will include practical arrangements such as frequency, confidentiality, and record-keeping, as well as expectations around how we will work together.

You will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about me or the therapy process, and to get a sense of whether working together feels right for you.

Everyone’s experience of therapy is different, so we will go at a pace that feels comfortable for you. There is no pressure to talk about anything before you are ready.

By the end of the session, we can reflect together on whether you would like to continue with further appointments. The decision to proceed is always yours, and we can also think about what approach might be most helpful moving forward.

What I can help with

Abuse, ADD / ADHD, Anxiety, Autism spectrum, Bereavement, Child related issues, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Depression, Disability, Health related issues, Identity issues, Infertility, LGBTQ+ counselling, Life coaching, Loss, Menopause, Mood disorder, Neurodiversity, Obsessions, OCD, Personal development, Pet bereavement, Phobias, Post-traumatic stress, Pregnancy related issues, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Service veterans, Sex-related issues, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Stress, Trauma, Women's issues, Work related issues

Sessions from £75.00

Features

  • Flexible hours available

Availability

I offer a free initial telephone or online consultation to discuss your supervision needs and how I may be able to support you.

Supervision is available both in-person and online, with a flexible diary to arrange mutually convenient times.

I can offer appointments between the following times: Tuesdays to Fridays between 9:30am and 3:00pm.

About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Kathryn, an Accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, Accredited CBT Therapist and EMDR Therapist. I am also a qualified Clinical Supervisor (Clinical Supervision for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Practice, University of Teesside, 2013 – Masters Level 7).

I am based in the Gosforth/Kenton area of Newcastle upon Tyne and work integratively, drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches to meet individual client and supervisee needs.

My core training and qualifications include:

• BACP Accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor (Transactional Analysis core model), Northern Guild for Psychotherapy (2009)

• BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT), Newcastle University (2011)

• Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), EMDR Academy (2017)

• Certificate in Couples Counselling, The Cherished Family Project (2019)

I have worked in both NHS services and private practice since 2007. Over this time, I have developed a strong interest in supervision and have consistently received positive feedback from supervisees regarding my supportive, structured and collaborative approach.

In supervision, I tend to be more didactic than purely socratic in style, offering reflection, shared thinking and guidance when needed. I aim to work collaboratively with supervisees as a team, supporting you to find clarity, develop clinical confidence, and leave sessions with practical answers and clear plans for client work.

I also place strong value on the restorative function of supervision. I believe supervision should be a safe, reflective and containing space, as well as one that supports professional development. Open, honest and constructive feedback is central to how I work, ensuring supervision remains effective, ethical and meaningful.

Supervision is a vital part of clinical practice, supporting both professional development and safe, ethical client work. This is at the heart of the service I offer.

Practice description

I aim to create a supportive, informal and collaborative supervision environment where we can work openly and honestly together. I place strong importance on the supervisory relationship, as I believe this is key to helping supervisees feel comfortable, valued and able to bring all aspects of their clinical work.

There are no “daft” questions in supervision, and I welcome curiosity, reflection and discussion at all levels of experience. I also actively encourage open feedback, as I see supervision as a two-way process that should continually evolve to meet your needs and support your client work effectively.

My approach is both structured and relational, balancing guidance with collaborative exploration to help you develop confidence, clarity and ethical practice in your work with clients.

My first session

In our first supervision session, the focus is on getting to know you, your practice, and what you need from supervision. We will spend time exploring your professional background, training, and current client work, as well as any specific areas you would like support with.

We will also look at how you like to work, your preferred learning style, and what you find most helpful in supervision. This helps to ensure that our sessions are tailored to you and your clinical needs.

An important part of the first session is also establishing a clear supervision agreement. This will include practical arrangements such as frequency, confidentiality, and record-keeping, as well as expectations around how we will work together.

There is also space to discuss any immediate clinical concerns or cases you may wish to bring. The aim is for you to leave the first session with a clear sense of how supervision will work, and confidence that it is a supportive, reflective and collaborative space for your ongoing professional development and client work.
