About me and my therapy practice

I am a solution-focused Life Transitions and Adult Counsellor and Psychotherapist who will help you identify past reasons for your anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or relationship issues, and collaboratively develop practical strategies and alternative ways of thinking so you can find lasting solutions to your problems.

I offer on-line counselling from home [FaceTime, Zoom, Whatsapp], both long- and short term, as well as one-off support sessions [Bookable between 12pm and 2pm weekdays], and ‘Walk and Talk’ [Beverley Westwood].  I am trained in psychotherapy and counselling to Masters Level, and work in a humanistic solution-focussed way. Counselling is most likely to be successful when there is a positive relationship between the client and the therapist. I offer a confidential, non-judgemental space for clients to be able to share with me what is troubling them and jointly work together to find solutions to their problems.

Practice description

I am a qualified BACP accredited therapist, with a Masters Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I worked for East Riding of Yorkshire Council for over 12 years as A Youth Support Counsellor, helping young people in schools and colleges over the whole of the East Riding. As a Well-being Manager there, I helped families successfully navigate Child Social Care, SEND teams and CAMHS to ensure their children accessed the most appropriate support for their mental health and well-being.

For much of my adult life I was the sole carer - both practically and emotionally- for a family member who suffered from Bipolar Disorder, so have lived experience of the impact chronic mental illness can have on an individual and their wider family.

Since 2012, through my private practice, I have supported adults of all ages, from post-school years onwards, to also successfully navigate many of life’s emotional upheavals and difficulties, such as post-trauma, bereavement, childhood abuse and neglect, low self esteem, anxiety and depression, as well as troubled toxic relationships.

I will provide you with the following:

A safe space where you can talk about personal, emotional or psychological issues, perhaps for the first time.

A non-judgemental, client-led place, in which you can start to make better sense of your thoughts, behaviours and emotions, and your relationships with others.

A collaborative non-biased, relationship where we can work through possible strategies and outcomes to problems, together.

Regular mental health and emotional well-being support where you can make sense of life's problems and feel happier and more fulfilled in yourself.

I can offer mental-heath support for:

Anxiety; depression; bereavement; low self-esteem; lack of confidence, relationship issues, career or other life changes, anger management, addiction and trauma, as well as gender and sexual orientation issues.

An opportunity to talk from the comfort of home without the need to travel to my counsellor practice.

My first session

The first session would be in the form of an assessment to find out what is concerning the client and how long they have been struggling with the problem. I will ask the client to share any previous counselling support experience; current mood, ask which supportive relationships you have in your life; and what you expect to gain from the support.
