About me and my therapy practice

I offer psychodynamic counselling to individual adults and couples who want to understand themselves and their relationships more deeply. You may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or caught in repeating patterns. Together, we slow things down and explore what sits beneath the surface, including how past experiences shape the present. With individuals, this can support a more compassionate understanding of yourself. With couples, we focus on how you relate, helping you hear each other more clearly and move out of familiar cycles. I offer a steady, thoughtful space where change can emerge over time

I specialise in working with couples and partners who feel stuck in repeating patterns or struggling to connect. Together, we explore what happens between you, helping you hear each other more clearly and understand the deeper dynamics shaping your relationship, so new ways of relating can begin to emerge.

I provide safe, confidential and non-judgemental counselling for adults, offering you the space to discuss and explore what is troubling you, with the aim of helping you to find a way forward.

I offer a FREE preliminary consultation where we can explore what is troubling you, and you will be able to learn about me, how I work, and decide whether counselling with me is right for you. We may then decide to meet for a set number of sessions or on an open-ended basis.

I gained my Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling in 2009 and have counselled on a voluntary and private basis since then. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and as such I am bound by their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. My work is overseen by a supervisor and I undertake regular Continuous Professional Development activities.

Practice description

I work in a psychodynamic way, which means we pay attention not only to what is happening in your life now, but also to the deeper patterns that may be shaping your thoughts, feelings, and relationships. Often, difficulties that feel immediate have roots in earlier experiences, ways of coping, or beliefs about yourself that developed over time.

In our sessions, we slow things down and take time to explore what might sit beneath the surface. This can include noticing recurring themes in your life, how you relate to others, and how you experience yourself. We may also pay attention to what happens in the room between us, as this can offer important clues about patterns that play out elsewhere.

You don’t need to arrive with everything clearly worked out. Part of the process is finding words for things that may feel unclear, confusing, or hard to express. I will listen carefully and think with you, offering reflections and observations that may help you see things from a different perspective.

The pace of the work is thoughtful rather than quick-fix. Over time, this can lead to a deeper understanding of yourself, greater emotional freedom, and the possibility of making more conscious choices in how you live and relate.

I aim to provide a space that feels steady, respectful, and non-judgemental, where difficult thoughts and feelings can be brought and explored safely.

My first session

I offer a free initial consultation as a chance for us to meet and get a sense of whether working together feels right.

This is usually a relaxed, informal conversation where you can talk a little about what has brought you to therapy and what you might be hoping for. You don’t need to have everything clearly worked out — it’s fine if things feel uncertain or hard to put into words.

I’ll ask some gentle questions to understand your situation, your current difficulties, and any relevant background. This also gives you an opportunity to get a feel for how I work, ask any questions you may have, and think about whether you would feel comfortable speaking with me more regularly.

We can also talk through practical details such as session times, frequency, and fees, so you have a clear sense of what ongoing work might look like.

There is no obligation to continue after this meeting. Some people know quite quickly if it feels like a good fit; for others, it can take a little time to reflect. Either way, the aim is to offer a calm, respectful space where you can begin to think about what you need.
