About me and my therapy practice

We all experience emotional difficulties at some stage in our lives and sometimes these can feel too challenging to manage.  Seeking someone to talk with who has training and experience can be a really helpful option.

I have more than 20 years experience in working with a wide range of issues and in particular in hospices supporting people who have been diagnosed with a serious illness, their family members/carers and those bereaved.

I am BACP, UKCP fully accredited systemic psychotherapist, drawing from relational, person centred, narrative, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), solution focused and coaching/leadership approaches.  I have a special interest in understanding the relationships and the systems in which we live.

I am a qualified supervisor (trained through Cascade).

I offer a confidential, safe space to talk about feelings and thoughts; for some, just one session can be helpful to explore a particular dilemma or worry.  Sometimes the stories we tell others, differ from the stories we are actually living...  this can be exhausting and emotionally challenging.   Therapy can offer a place to talk through how we are really feeling and work out together new ways of being.   Exploring thoughts and emotions, together we can co-create some helpful strategies and re-frame some less helpful thoughts.

I am particularly experienced in working with people who....

- have been diagnosed and living with a serious illness - cancer, breast cancer or a neurological diagnosis

- may be facing the end of their lives

- are caring for someone

- are in remission or recovered from illness

- have been bereaved or experiencing a sense of loss in their lives

- are experiencing challenges or dilemmas in a relationship

Practice description

I offer flexible day/ early evening appointments.

On-going sessions can be time-limited or open-ended.

I am happy to offer a one-off session.

I work via zoom, telephone and outside/walking therapy/counselling.

I can offer a home or hospital/hospice (local) visit if you are too poorly to travel.

Sessions are for 60 minutes.

My first session

During the first session I will go through practical details including confidentiality, fees, your preferences around sessions times/frequency and paperwork.  This can be done remotely or face to face.

We can explore together what is most important to you to talk about at the moment in your life and give you the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about the therapy process.

I will be interested to learn more about you; your life and relationships today.  You may like to talk about some of your relationships with family members, friends, colleagues and/or  your relationship with events and things in your life - your home, activities, interests.   We will go at your pace, entering into conversations that you feel comfortable to have.

I look forward to meeting you.
