About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Lorraine, a caring and empathic therapist with over 25 years of experience supporting people through a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties.

I have worked across private practice, NHS Primary and Secondary Care services, and in Schools and Colleges. This breadth of experience has allowed me to support adults, young people, and families with many differing needs, from mild emotional distress to more complex and longstanding difficulties.

I offer Person-centred counselling, IPT therapy and CBT via an encrypted secure online platform or by phone.

I work respectfully and collaboratively, valuing your experiences and strengths. Therapy with me is not about being told what to do, but about working together to make sense of what’s happening in your life and finding ways forward that feel meaningful and achievable for you.

I understand that seeking therapy can feel daunting, and I aim to make the process as supportive and accessible as possible, from our first session onwards.

Practice description

My Therapeutic Approach

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to each individual. I believe that therapy works best when you feel heard, understood, and supported, so I aim to provide a safe, calm, and non‑judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.

I draw on Person-Centred Counselling, Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), working flexibly to suit you rather than following a “one size fits all” model. Together, we can explore patterns in relationships, thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, helping you to gain clarity, build resilience, and develop practical strategies for change.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified Counselling and IPT Supervisor, depending on your your core practice I can offer either Person-Centred or IPT Supervision. I will either draw on the Hawkins and Shohet model of supervision, the Cyclical Model of Counselling Supervision by Page and Wosket or the IPT Meta Supervision Competencies. Either of these models are useful approaches with tools to help guide us through the process.

Practice description

I believe Supervision needs to be a safe and supportive space where you, the supervisee, can reflect on the counselling and therapeutic process you have with your clients. Where you can explore any ethical dilemmas, transference or countertransference. Where you are able to reflect on the therapeutic relationship and really tune into the hidden areas of your client work.

Supervision is also there to offer you support and guidance, to help you explore your own difficulties, bring the unconscious to the conscious. It help us see the hidden aspect of ourselves that may leak into our therapeutic relationships.

Supervision is also there to help you develop your own internal supervisor that guides you through the therapeutic relationship and keeps  you and your clients safe.

There is a holding aspect in my supervision sessions, the holding of the client and tuning into their needs and the holding of the supervisee, you, and tuning into the process.

I will work hard to offer these things in our supervision sessions together.

My first session

In our first session I will be interested in how you practice and what clinical approach/s you use with different clients.

If you are not familiar with the supervision approaches I use we can look at these, to give clarity to our sessions.

We will also be exploring what your needs are for supervision, i.e. what are your expectations of the supervisory relationship.
