About me and my therapy practice

My work is non- directive ,is influenced by humanistic theories and is based on the belief that each human being knows what is best for their own well being . I am prepared to take people as I find them and to create a situation which from the beginning gives the person the feeling that here is a place that imposes nothing beyond helping them to clarify what they are ready to do in relation to improving their lives , where they can feel the interest in them as people, not as problems, and where, if they decide to engage in counselling they are doing so to become participants in their own journey of healing .

In defining my work as a supervisor I can say that I am primarily concerned with the growth and development of my supervisees. I see supervision as a safe space where both practitioner and client are held and attended to in a manner that promotes reflection insight and wisdom. It is a place where personal and professional identity is formed and transformed.

Practice description

My practise is housed in a quiet and pleasant environment with room to move around or to do creative work . My therapy room opens out into a garden where you can step out for a breath of fresh air if needed. I work alone as a private practitioner and I provide in person and on-line therapy.

I am also a counselling /psychotherapy supervisor and trainer and offer opportunities for CPD and training in specific areas of counselling.

My first session

First Appointment

Before the first session begins you will be given information which explains the service on offer and you will be informed about the limits to confidentiality, the fee , the commitment needed etc. . The first session which is designed to help you familiarise yourself with the therapist and the environment as well as to help me get a sense of what might be helpful to you , will focus on your needs and expectations and will provide a space where you can begin to be heard.

Sessions last for I hour and are designed to meet the client's needs at the time of meeting. However I like to maintain a structured approach so a therapeutic plan would be explored and would be designed as far as possible, to fit with the user's approach to communicating .
