This study will explore the impact that being a Christian has on individuals who have experienced suicidal ideation and have an active Christian faith.
The majority of Christian literature seems to focus on if suicide is a sin or not? And there appears to be little attention on an individual's experience, particularly Christian individuals.
The aim of the study is to hear the voices of individuals who have experienced suicidal ideation whilst they were part of a Christian Church community. Some people experience church as a loving and supportive space for people who struggle with their mental health. But there can still be a perceived stigma of shame when it comes to experiencing suicidal ideation.
The interviews will be semi-structured with pre-prepared open questions for the candidates which allow for some guidance to the process. The interviews will be 60 minutes and held on microsoft teams. The open questions (see Participant Information Sheet) will allow me to ask follow-up questions depending on each candidates’ answer. The semi-structured nature should allow candidates to give detailed and personalised responses.
I will be using Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to collect and analysis data.
There is a participant information sheet for anyone who is interested. This includes interview questions and my contact details.
Please see here for more information on how to take part.
