How can working as part of a team of counsellors within a hospice setting impact wellbeing and the potential for burnout?
Hello, I'm Heidi! I have an interest in working environments for counsellors and am conducting a qualitative research study for my MA in professional counselling at Waverley Abbey College. I hope to gain insight into a broader understanding of how teamwork may impact the wellbeing of counsellors and the potential of burnout. This research specifically focuses on counsellors working in a hospice setting.
Aims of the research
• To understand what aspects and experiences of teamwork from counsellors contribute to their wellbeing, how may it impact the potential for burnout?
• Why working as a team can be important to counsellors working with heavy topics such as end of life and bereavement?
• What makes a counselling team good?
Who can take part?
• You are a qualified counsellors to at least diploma level with at least 3 yrs post-qualification experience, registered with the BACP or similar recognised professional body.
• You have spent at least the last 2 years working as a counsellor within a team in an adult hospice setting (not NHS)
• Your team has at least 3 counsellors in it.
The understanding of team is that you have regular contact which could include (but the list is not exhaustive) - weekly team meetings, regular catch ups, journal clubs, peer supervision, regular social activities, lunch meetups, team training, sharing admin office space etc.
What will you have to do?
• You will have a 45 minutes semi-structured interview via Microsoft Teams which will be recorded and transcribed
• All data will be kept confidential and anonymised and all participants will be given pseudonyms.
Data will be processed in accordance with my college's data policies and research will be carried out in line with the Data Protection act, 2018.
