What is the experience and practice of counsellors/psychotherapists working with children and young people (CYP) who struggle to express their personal thoughts due to speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)
The aim of this research study is to increase awareness in counsellors of this expressive language condition, the impact of this condition, and how counsellors/psychotherapists might recognise the difficulty in clients who might otherwise appear to communicate without difficulty.
Topics of interest:
- To understand how CYP counsellors/ psychotherapists might come to recognise that a client struggles with expressive language difficulties where there is no identification or diagnosis.
- To understand the experience of supporting a client who finds it difficult to express themselves.
- To understand how CYP counsellors/psychotherapists might help their clients to self-advocate, or families to advocate on their child’s behalf.
- To understand how CYP counsellors/psychotherapists facilitate personal agency for their young clients.
- To understand what processes and techniques CYP counsellors/psychotherapists find useful in helping children in their practice to identify and process their thoughts.
