I am inviting qualified counsellors to take part in a research study exploring how counsellors work with clients experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA). This study forms part of my BA Hons Integrative Counselling qualification and aims to develop a greater understanding of counsellors' experiences, perspectives, and therapeutic approaches when working with EBSA.

Emotionally Based School Avoidance is an increasingly recognised issue affecting many children and young people. Despite growing awareness, there is limited research exploring how counsellors understand and respond to EBSA within therapeutic practice.

By sharing your experiences, you can contribute to improving knowledge and informing future counselling practice.

If you choose to participate, you will be invited to take part in a one-to-one semi-structured interview lasting approximately 45–60 minutes. Interviews will be conducted online via Microsoft Teams at a mutually convenient time. With your permission, the interview will be audio recorded to ensure an accurate transcript of the discussion.

Participation is entirely voluntary. You may choose not to answer any question and can withdraw from the study up to the point at which your interview has been anonymised and included in the data analysis. All information you provide will be treated confidentially, anonymised, and stored securely in accordance with GDPR and ethical research guidelines.

You are eligible to participate if you:

  • Are a qualified counsellor practising in the UK.
  • Are a registered member of a recognised professional body
  • Have experience of working therapeutically with clients experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance.
