Dear Participant, Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. I am currently in my second year of the Advanced Diploma in Counselling (NCPS Accredited - Level 4 equivalent) at The Heartwood Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

This survey forms part of my research project and seeks to collect data on the frequency of grounding exercises within counselling sessions. I am researching different methodologies used to take clients from the sympathetic state to the ventral vagal or parasympathetic state.

I am interested in how we can help clients overcome stress and anxiety and enable them to enter the safe and connected state, where they can self-regulate. Many use grounding exercises which are rapid techniques to manage anxiety, panic, or flashbacks by reconnecting with the present moment through sensory input and physical awareness.

As a student member of BACP, I abide by their ethical framework and research guidelines. All responses are anonymous. Participants are asked not to include any identifying information. The data will be stored securely in line with GDPR requirements and will only be accessed by the researcher, tutor and external assessor for assessment purposes. It will be retained for assessment use only and securely deleted within six months of the course ending. The questions avoid sensitive material and do not ask for any client information.

By completing this survey, you are giving informed consent for your responses to be used in this research project.

Please find the link to the survey here: Are grounding exercises part of your therapeutic work?

Thank you for your time, Nicky.
