We are looking for counsellors and psychotherapists to take part in an online research study exploring experiences of receiving obscene telephone calls in private practice. We are conducting this research as part of the MSc in Counselling at Bangor University.
The study aims to explore the nature of obscene telephone calls received by counsellors in private practice, how counsellors experience and respond to these calls, and any emotional or professional impact.
You may be eligible to participate if you:
- are aged 18 years or over;
- are a counsellor or psychotherapist working in private practice in the UK; and
- have received at least one obscene telephone call in the context of your private practice counselling work.
For the purposes of this study, an obscene telephone call may include unwanted sexual, sexually explicit, indecent, threatening, or otherwise inappropriate content or behaviour.
The online questionnaire contains multiple-choice and open-text questions about your experiences, including the nature of the calls, your thoughts and feelings, actions you may have taken, and whether these experiences have had any lasting emotional or professional impact. Some people may find recalling these experiences uncomfortable or upsetting.
You can choose how much detail you provide, and you will not be asked to provide graphic or explicit details of the calls. Please do not provide information that could identify clients, callers, or other individuals. Participation is voluntary and responses are anonymous.
Please see here for more information.
