About me and my therapy practice

If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, addiction or relationship issues, then counselling can offer an effective way of working to overcome these feelings. I use an evidence-based approach to therapy that can provide rapidly effective results. 

As an integral part of my counselling I include regular brief assessment of how you are feeling to ensure the therapy is effective for you. Average scores from my 20 most recent clients have shown average reductions of anxiety from 39% to 5%, and depression from 38% to 4% over 5 or 6 sessions.

I offer the option of outdoor counselling, based on the Downs, either as a 'walk and talk', or including some running at an easy pace. I also hold sessions remotely for those who would prefer, either by Zoom or over the phone.

Practice description

Walking can be a great way to provide an environment to talk through issues in a relaxed and comfortable way. The pace of movement is down to what feels right for you and we might take the occasional break on a bench. Green spaces and movement in themselves have been shown to improve mental wellbeing so can offer the ideal setting to find a path through whatever you are struggling with.

It is important that you find someone who you feel is the right fit for you and, if after an initial meeting you think that could be me, we would arrange a subsequent block of sessions

I offer therapy using the TEAM CBT approach which has been shown to be rapidly effective in working with anxiety, depression, addictions and relationship issues. As part of our work together we would carry out brief mood assessments to ensure ther therapy is being effective. Results from my last 20 clients show drops in anxiety from 39% to 5% and in depression of 38% to 4% over 5 or 6 weeks.

Practice description

I offer online counselling via Zoom which, while being a very convenient way to work, also offers the opportunity to share and work on resources to help you find a way through whatever it is you are struggling with.

Suffering is generally not created by events around us but by the way we respond to them and I would help you identify unhelpful patterns of thinking that are keeping you stuck where you are and then enable you to discover techniques and methods to move on from them.

My first session

I offer a free phone consultation before we first meet. It is important for you to find the right fit when it comes to a counsellor and I suggest using this introduction and a first session to confirm for yourself that you want to work with me. Then I usually suggest thinking in terms of another 5 sessions. most people find that is enough to achieve what they were hoping for, but there is the option to continue after this if you felt there was more you wanted to work on.
