My first session

What to Expect in Your First Couples Therapy Session

Many couples feel relief and clarity after just one session. Even if things feel stuck, having a structured, supportive space to talk openly—without arguments or defensiveness—can shift the energy between you almost immediately.

1️⃣ Understanding Your Story

We begin by exploring why you’re here—whether it’s communication struggles, trust issues, co-parenting challenges, emotional disconnection, or Ethical Non-Monogamy (ENM). Each partner has space to share their perspective while I help identify underlying patterns.

2️⃣ Clarifying Your Goals

Some couples have clear objectives, while others just know something must change. Whether you’re rebuilding after infidelity, improving communication, or navigating a major life transition, we set realistic, achievable goals.

3️⃣ Identifying Patterns & Strengths

We explore what’s keeping you stuck and what’s working well. Understanding attachment styles, triggers, and past influences helps us make sense of your relationship dynamic.

4️⃣ Immediate Insights & Practical Shifts

I may offer insights or small adjustments that shift how you communicate and connect right away. Even a new perspective on an old conflict can bring instant relief and deeper understanding.

5️⃣ We Go as Deep as You Allow

Therapy works best when both partners fully engage. The depth of transformation depends on your openness to the process. If you’re not ready to explore deeper emotions, progress will be limited.

6️⃣ Mapping Out Next Steps

We’ll decide the best way forward—weekly sessions, fortnightly deep dives, or a short-term plan—based on your goals and lifestyle.

💡 Many couples leave the first session feeling more connected, proof that even one conversation in the right space can begin the healing process.

About me and my therapy practice

If you’re looking for a therapist who just nods and asks, “How does that make you feel?”—I’m probably not the right fit. But if you’re ready to explore the deeper layers of who you are, how you love, and what’s been holding you back—I’d love to work with you.

I support people through life transitions, identity shifts, relationship struggles, and the journey of rebuilding self-worth. Whether you’re navigating big changes, feeling stuck in old patterns, or trying to find your voice after years of silencing it—I offer a space that’s warm, honest, and deeply supportive.

My clients often say they come to me when they need more than just a safe space—they want real, lasting change. I blend therapy, coaching, and holistic psychology to help you unpack what’s really going on beneath the surface and move forward in a way that feels aligned and empowering.

I work with individuals and couples, with a particular focus on:

– Relationship patterns and intimacy struggles

– Identity and self-esteem

– Queer and marginalised experiences

– Nervous system regulation and trauma-informed healing

My style is relational, down-to-earth, and intuitive. I show up as a real person, and I invite you to do the same. You don’t have to have it all figured out—just bring your curiosity, your courage, and your truth. We’ll work through the rest together.

Practice description

My practice is a space for people who are done with surface-level solutions. It’s for those navigating the messy middle—where identity feels unclear, relationships feel strained, and the confidence they show the world doesn’t quite match how they feel inside.

Whether you’re unpacking childhood wounds, processing a breakup, navigating an identity shift, or trying to stop repeating the same patterns in love—I offer a grounded, compassionate space where we can do the deep work, together.

I work both online and in-person from my therapy space in Wimbledon, offering flexibility to meet you where you are—literally and emotionally.

I blend traditional therapy with coaching and holistic psychology, weaving in nervous system education, relational depth work, and trauma-informed insight. Sessions are tailored, creative, and rooted in connection—not protocol. This isn’t “tick box” therapy. It’s work that honours the complexity of who you are.

Clients often tell me they feel seen for the first time in our work. That they’re able to connect dots they never knew existed. That they finally feel safe enough to be honest—with me, and with themselves.

It’s calm, brave, and deeply human work.

My first session

The first session is all about getting to know you—your story, your challenges, and what’s bringing you to therapy now. I’ll ask some thoughtful questions to help us explore what’s been going on beneath the surface, and I’ll listen carefully to get a sense of what you need, what you’ve already tried, and where you’d like to go from here.

This isn’t about rushing into solutions—it’s about building a relationship where you feel safe, seen, and supported. That said, I also like to keep things active and intentional. I usually offer reflections and insights from the very beginning, and I often suggest a small piece of reflective “homework” after the session—something practical, nourishing, or thought-provoking to help you stay connected to the work in between sessions.

You’ll leave the first session with a clearer sense of how I work, what we might focus on together, and most importantly—whether the space feels right for you.

About me and my therapy practice

Hey, I’m Emma—an integrative, queer-affirming therapist with a spiritual and soulful twist. I offer therapy for individuals, couples, and groups, with a strong focus on identity, relationships, inner child healing, and coming home to your most authentic self.

My practice is rooted in the belief that therapy should feel empowering, grounding, and real—not clinical or cold. I work relationally, drawing on psychodynamic ideas, TA, parts work, and somatic techniques, weaving in creativity, intuition, and spirituality where it’s welcomed. Whether you’re unravelling old patterns, healing from trauma, or just trying to make sense of life, this is a space where all parts of you are invited.

I specialise in working with women and queer folks navigating life transitions, self-worth issues, and complex relationship dynamics. I’m also a trained couples therapist, and I offer support for those wanting to strengthen connection, heal after rupture, or get clarity around big decisions.

I believe healing happens in relationship—with self, others, and community. So whether we’re working 1:1, in a couple, or in a group, you can expect a safe, honest, non-judgemental space where laughter and truth-telling are both welcome.

If you’re looking for a therapist who can hold depth, challenge gently, and celebrate your wholeness—even the messy bits—I’d love to hear from you. Let’s do the work, but make it real, sacred, and human.

Practice description

I offer integrative, relational, and spirituality-informed supervision with a focus on group dynamics, identity exploration, and trauma-aware practice. As a queer, Black British therapist and newly qualified supervisor, I welcome experienced practitioners and trainees seeking a collaborative, reflective space that honours both clinical depth and personal growth.

My approach is grounded in psychodynamic, humanistic, and TA-informed principles, with experience in working with couples, groups, and individuals. I bring specialist insight into relationship dynamics, intersectionality, existential philosophy, inner child work, and working with queer clients or those navigating complex identities.

I’m particularly passionate about supporting therapists who integrate spirituality or holistic practices into their work—including ancestral healing, somatic work, or hypnotherapy. Supervisees are invited to bring their full selves into the space, and I aim to hold supervision as a co-created, empowering, and anti-oppressive process.

I offer both individual and group supervision, with an emerging interest in developing dedicated spirituality-informed supervision groups. My practice is LGBTQIA+ affirming, neurodivergent-aware, and rooted in deep respect for diversity in all its forms.

My first session

Our first session is all about connection, clarity, and collaboration. Whether you’re a seasoned therapist looking for a fresh, soulful perspective or a trainee seeking a supervisor who truly sees and supports you, this is a space to land, breathe, and feel held.

In our initial session, we’ll explore how you work, what lights you up, and what you’re currently navigating in practice. I’ll invite you to share your supervisory needs, worries (yes, even the ones you think you “shouldn’t” have), and hopes for your growth. There’s no pressure to present as polished or perfect—this is a space for honesty, humour, and humanity.

I don’t offer a discounted rate for the first session, as I believe in starting as we mean to go on—with mutual respect and full presence. However, I do bring intentionality, intuition, and insight into every first meeting, offering reflections and practical takeaways from the start. You’ll leave knowing if this space feels like a fit, and I’ll be clear about how I can support your learning, confidence, and evolution as a therapist.

I don’t require a formal assessment form, but I may ask you to share some background info in advance—just enough to get a sense of your context and training pathway.

If you’re holding complex client work, feeling unsure how to navigate the in-between moments, or just want a supervisor who gets it—who’s been there, too—you’re in the right place. I offer supervision with heart, clinical sharpness, and zero judgment. Let’s build something brave and boundaried, together.
