About me and my therapy practice
An increasing number of people come to a place in life when they want to talk to someone in a confidential space about their challenges.
I am practised at providing a space in which clients feel able to start to share. This sharing can be a relief for clients and the start of a rewarding yet challenging journey.
In addition to my private practice working with adults I have the experience working for some of the most established counselling services in Scotland for adults, children and young people.
I also have trainings in Mentalization-based Therapy for families with the Anna Freud Centre, Systemic Family Therapy at the Tavistock, Wisdom in Groups at the Bayswater Institute, Nonviolent Communication with CNVC and Diploma on Organisational Development at the Craighead Institute.
I attend a monthly men's group and practice a martial art.
Practice description
I aim to provide a safe space for clients to feel comfortable enough to share.
I am trained in both the person-centred and psychodynamic approaches. The person-centred approach helps me deeply listen to you. I help you get in touch with your hidden parts so you can feel accepted and acceptable.
My psychodynamic training helps us wonder about what is going on for you and why.
With an integration of both approaches I help you feel tricky feelings to help you move through unhelpful patterns and into better relationship with yourself and others.
Anxiety
Depressive symptoms / Low mood
Low self-esteem
Relationship challenges and fear of being in relationships
Fertility
My first session
In general I aim to provide you with a space in which you are comfortable enough to share whatever you would like. I believe that whatever comes up in your mind is most likely the best place to start.
Our initial session is a bit different in that we reflect on whether it feels comfortable enough for you to share and if we are a good match.
During the initial session we also talk about confidentiality and complete some basic admin and establish initial counselling goals.
These goals could be that you would like to see some improvement in certain relationships with individuals or in the workplace. It could be that you would like to see a reduction of depressive symptoms or notice an improvement in self esteem. Everyone has different challenges and your goals are tailored to you.
It can be useful to visit these goals periodically, eg every 6 sessions, so that we make the most of your sessions.
At the end of the initial session you can either book in for the next available week, choose not to continue or take 48 hours to think about it.
