About me and my therapy practice

Hello. We all go through times in life when we feel  lost, anxious or sad. This can relate to our relationships with others and the way we think and feel about ourselves. When we feel overwhelmed by these feelings or they don't seem to go away it can help to talk to someone outside of our normal family or friendship group.

I am a BACP registered integrative counsellor working with  adults, younger adults and students. I also specialise in working with ADHD, ADD and ASD clients. I provide a safe, confidential space to explore your feelings and make sense of what is going on in your life.  I am experienced in working with a diverse range of people in both community and educational settings.

I understand how tough it can be to consider opening up to a counsellor, and will meet you with warmth, acceptance, care and support. I will also bring humour and playfulness into sessions, where appropriate. You will be heard with respect and without judgement. We will work together to explore what’s troubling you, look at any obstacles getting in the way of you realising your hopes for yourself, and experiment with making lasting changes.

Where appropriate I will draw on my background in working as a Specialist Mentor supporting University students with neurodivergence (including ASD, ADD and ADHD), mental health concerns and physical disabilities. I also have a great deal of experience of working with people from a range of class and ethnic backgrounds, beliefs, faiths, ages and sexualities. I will respect, acknowledge and value the difference within and between us.

Practice description

I use different theories and approaches to support clients with different needs. This holistic approach means that I will not see you as a set of symptoms or a problem to be solved, but will help you to take a good look at your life with respect for your unique experience. Together we will explore what you are struggling with, uncover what inspires and energises you, and look at how you want to move forward.

We will work collaboratively by concentrating on what is important to you, and I will support you to gain fresh perspective through reflecting on and understanding yourself, your present situation and experiences and how you relate to yourself. I strongly believe that how we relate to ourselves is central to our happiness and contentment, and this will be at the heart of our work together.

In longer term work we may also explore how your early life and relationships, life circumstances and perhaps difficult histories have shaped you and your current behaviours, patterns and sense of self.  Having a better understanding of this is often helpful in terms of being more compassionate to ourselves in our present situations, which is the key to making effective and lasting change.

My first session

I offer a short and informal 10 - 15 minute chat online or on the phone for you to get a sense of me and what it might be like to work with me, this is free of charge.

Following this in our first session we will spend a short amount of time looking at administration and then start our work together. I will be led my you in terms of what you feel it is important for me to know about you and your life. If this feels too much I may ask you to describe for me a typical day in your life - and we will go from there.

About me and my therapy practice

Hello 👋 I started working outdoors with some of my clients during the coronavirus pandemic and saw that being in nature whilst delivering therapy combined the conventional outcomes of indoor therapy with the known benefits of connecting with the natural world. It also enables interconnectedness with nature which can support our sense of belonging and wellbeing as being outdoors in a green space can help us to feel calmer, grounded and more connected to the world around us.

Moreover, observing and being in nature can be a source of comfort and inspiration. Being able to move as you talk is often grounding and calming, helping us to self-regulate which is particularly useful when we may experience anxiety or low mood.

For outdoor therapy we will meet in Eastville Park, off fishponds Rd. I can choose the route and meeting place or if you prefer, you can. Whatever makes you feel most comfortable. We can also spend sessions sat on the numerous benches around the park.

These sessions are accessible; Eastville park has accessible toilets and step-free footpaths. However, if you have mobility issues it is better for you to have a route planned that you feel safe and comfortable with, as in these circumstances I would prefer to be guided by you and your needs.
