I can work with you in a fairly flexible way as I understand shifts, work situations, family and other commitments can impact on your availability.
I anticipate working on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays- and will be able to offer morning, afternoon or evening appointments.
We can work using Zoom or telephone if you would prefer. At the moment, I am not doing face-to-face work.
About me and my therapy practice
I work in a Person-centred way. This means that I offer you a safe and non-judgemental space in which we can work together to help you to understand whatever it is that is troubling you.
Sometimes, the things that trouble us can be helped by exploring how we understand them and in counselling, I will encourage you to explore your own unique and personal way of how you see the world. This can lead to deeper insight and better understanding of yourself and the situation you find yourself in.
Counselling involves counsellor and client being connected and, sometimes, it can take a few sessions to build up this trust in the therapeutic relationship where we will work together to look at what is making you feel less than your best. The counselling process can be challenging and I will support you in this. We will work at a pace that is comfortable for you. It is important that you feel safe in the counselling relationship and I work to create a space where you will feel respected, valued and accepted so that you are ready to explore the difficult things in your life.
Sometimes, only a few sessions are required and sometimes, more time may be needed for you to feel better. In this, I will be led by you.
This process of counselling will hopefully facilitate your move from feeling stuck to getting back on track and to enjoying your life. We cannot always choose what happens in life, but we can choose how we make sense of things and move towards the future anticipating that we have the resources within ourselves to cope with whatever life brings our way. I will be pleased and privileged if you decide to choose me as your therapist to accompany you on this journey, helping you to explore yourself and your life in a positive, constructive and supportive way.
My practice is run online and using the telephone.
I see clients with a whole range of issues and have years of specialist experience in Workplace counselling and in Fertility counselling.
Over the years, I have worked in many settings, NHS, Occupational Health, Fertility clinic, GP practices, Private practice; I have worked with male and female clients, couples and individuals, from different educational and social backgrounds, holding differing beliefs, faiths and cultures and at the centre of my practice is the belief that we are all unique and that we are all equally deserving of being treated with respect, dignity and acceptance.
Issues of loss, low mood, anxiety and stress are recurrent and tend to be common themes in counselling as it is part of our shared experience to know loss ( death, relationship breakdown, not conceiving when expected, ill health, redundancy or retirement). It has become apparent to me that going through difficult times is very much part of the human condition but also that it is how we come out of those difficult times, what we have learned about ourselves and how we make sense of them constructively that helps us to incorporate them comfortably into our life stories. I feel privileged that you are thinking about choosing me to come alongside you whilst you go through this process in counselling.
I work with individuals who are over the age of eighteen and I anticipate doing this online for the foreseeable future. I have been training recently to familiarise myself with practising online and I believe that this can be a very successful way of providing therapy.
I also work as a counselling supervisor, again offering online/telephone sessions.
My first session
Even before your first session, I would like to meet you to get to know a little about you and what has brought you to counselling. When you first contact me, I will offer to set up an initial meeting with you on Zoom at a convenient time for you. This meeting will take approximately 15 minutes.
During this, we can identify what you would like to work on and whether my skill set will meet your needs. It will also allow you to see whether you feel you can work with me. It is really important that you can connect with your therapist.
There will be no charge for this initial meeting.
If you decide to work with me following this, I will then send out my welcome paperwork pack via Signable. This will contain a contract, privacy statement and your contact details which I will need you to read, sign and return to me before we begin our work together.
Our first session will then be arranged and during this, I will do a fuller assessment to see how you are and what you would hope to achieve in counselling. Counselling sessions will be of approximately 50 minutes duration and can be weekly or fortnightly or less frequently to suit your individual circumstances.
