About me and my therapy practice
Hello! My name is James, I am a Psychodynamic therapist. It can be incredibly difficult to reach out when you feel something is ‘not quite right’ or even needing someone who will listen to thoughts or feelings you have been holding on to for some time. The trigger to considering therapy can be anything happening in your present life, anxiety about the future, self-esteem or self- worth even repeating behaviours that are impacting your quality of life.
I provide a safe and non- judgemental space to allow you to express yourself and gain a better understanding of your conscious and unconscious mind, by working through this you can see how aspects of your past may have affected you allowing greater understanding of yourself. It’s important to me that we have a good connection allowing trust so you can feel comfortable in our sessions. What I will not do is judge you, lecture you or offer ‘solutions’– the purpose of therapy is to allow you to reach your own conclusions in a safe environment.
It is a truism that realising that you need or could benefit from help is a major stage in the process. That is often a brave realisation and experience shows that this acceptance is the start of your journey.
My qualifications are BA in Psychology and Counselling from Roehampton University and an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy from Birkbeck, University of London.
I am Psychodynamic Psychotherapist. This form of psychotherapy explores your past to understand how it might be affecting your present. This could take the form of repeating behaviours, responses, or relationships that you wish to understand in greater detail, from this many different emotions or even lack of them may occur through exploring them. By building a trusting relationship we can reflect on these many parts so that you can feel in more in touch with yourself and your environment.
Therapy can be time limited or continue as long or as short as you wish it to be. Currently am only online but will be moving into face to face in the near future.
My first session
An initial consultation will be online for a 35-minute session and is £15. This session is there to let us explore why you have come to therapy and how I can help you through your journey. It also allows us both to see if I am the right therapist for you. If you feel I am, then we can organise a day and time to organise the first session, sessions last for 50 mins.
