About me and my therapy practice

Sometimes we can struggle in our relationships and in particular our more intimate relationships. We may feel unable to address this directly with our partners. This is where Couples Counselling can make a difference, as this provides a place for you both to have a clear focus; which is supported by an independent person. This is often a very practical solution-focused approach to counselling and the 'client' is your shared relationship.

The sessions will be held using Zoom, so even if you are not living together, sessions can still be arranged.

Practice description

In individual 1-1 counselling the focus is on you and your needs. Often this can have a positive impact on our relationships, almost as a by-product of learning more about our own thoughts, feelings, needs and how to express these in daily life.

You may want to explore couples counselling as a distinct intervention, where you both recognise that there are issues that need to be explored around the relationship you share.

  • Maybe the way you communicate is no longer working and you are not sure how to find a way back, to be able to communicate with each other again.
  • Maybe you are planning to settle down or want to commit more to each other; but want to explore some elements, that you anticipate might prove to be challenging, going forward.
  • Maybe you have decided to have children and are struggling to adjust to what this change means for your relationship with each other.
  • Maybe you feel confused about your feelings about the other person and/or feel uncertain of their feelings about you.
  • Maybe there is a lack of intimacy in the relationship and you are not sure how to tackle this.

In Couples work; as the counsellor, I can facilitate discussion and support you to talk to each other about the stuff that matters, with the aim of working towards a healthy, fulfilling relationship that is meeting both of your unique needs and preferences.

My first session

Couples Counselling is an active approach, where work on the relationship is needed in between sessions. So from the start I will be encouraging you to begin working hard for each other and for yourself. You are coming to me, I hope, because you want to see if things can be worked through; so your commitment to each other is demonstrated by signing up for this support. The sessions will be the focal point for reviewing the work you are doing together and looking at activities and exercises that may be helpful to you; as well as exploring what each of you feel are the issues that need to be addressed. Ahead of the first session general paperwork will be completed so I have some background to support an effective 1st session.

Availability

Due to the additional flexibility that working online affords me, I am able to support the request for sessions on variable days and times; which I find reflects the shift patterns of many people looking to access regular counselling. I am now able to add to my services with the option of Couple's Counselling.

About me and my therapy practice

I am Tracy and have added online counselling to my counselling service since February 2020. This has been particularly useful over the past year due to Covid-19 and the restrictions placed on us all. Psychological support is needed possibly now more than ever, so I offer some concessionary rates, for those that need this, subject to my availability.

I have undertaken additional training (Diploma in Counselling Online with OCST), to ensure I am working safely online, as your welfare is important to me. Working online can be useful in many ways, as it makes attending counselling more achievable, for people with a busy schedule. This can be an excellent way for anyone with physical disabilities (acute or chronic) to access counselling more easily, as this can be done from the comfort of your home or office. Working online is not appropriate for you; if you are in crisis or feeling actively suicidal; as face to face support is what would be more supportive in these situations. If you are feeling in need of immediate support now, then please contact the Samaritans: 116 123.

There are different ways of working online; email exchanges, voice-only webcam, video webcam/tele-conferencing or instant messaging, which are explained in more detail on my website https://tracyscounsellingservice.co.uk please check this out or contact me so I can answer any questions for you. On a practical level you need a good internet connection, be able to download the required software for Zoom and ensure you have privacy where you will be during sessions; to ensure confidentiality. I am trained as an integrative counsellor; which means I blend the different approaches I have been trained in; to support you in the best way possible.

Practice description

As noted above I can work using a range of online methods and can blend these where needed; for example, moving to email counselling when it is school holidays and setting aside a counselling hour at the times I work, feels too difficult. I am also happy to do telephone if you prefer to be active during sessions, you can then walk and talk if that feels appropriate.

My first session

The first consultation with me is free of charge and is undertaken using a 30 minute phone call. Then you will be asked to complete some initial forms via secure email, before we start actively working online.

I am currently planning to resume face to face sessions as the restrictions are eased on 19th July. Covid-19 will still be an issue, which I will need to consider with you, when looking at the possibility of face to face sessions. The alternative option I offer is Online Counselling sessions. This is explained on my Online listing here and on my main website. I will be initially face to face for 1 evening a week, on Thursdays. There may well be scope to open up other evenings, as everything opens back up; so do get in touch to make an enquiry, indicating what evening you would be interested in.

About me and my therapy practice

I work on the basic assumption that the relationship between us is the most important thing to get right when starting counselling work. This is why I provide a free 30 minute initial phone consultation as this gives you the opportunity to begin getting a feel for me, before committing to booking a face to face session.

If face to face is unavailable when you contact me, I can provide Online Counselling as an option for you. Please see my other listing for more information about this; or visit my website: https://tracyscounsellingservice.co.uk for more information about me, my services and what I can offer you.

Essentially I can help you by providing a safe space, where you can tell your story and share your fears, express your worries and explore your difficulties. I can help you to understand what is happening by working through it together. I can help you to understand yourself better; so you can manage your problems and challenges with more confidence going forward. I can help you explore your experiences and make sense of them; so you are able to then be more proactive.

I have experience with a range of issues, but have additional interest in looking at loss, bereavement and also relationship issues. I have just completed additional training in Transactional Analysis, which is very useful for relationship issues and am undertaking more CPD to enable me to add couples work to my services.

Practice description

I am able to work from a meeting room based in Letchworth within Mrs Howard Memorial Community Centre. The meeting room is on the first floor but there is a lift if needed. There is 1 step then into the room. Alternatively we can look at using a room on the ground floor. The Centre is used by a range of different services, so may at times be fairly busy. There is parking on site which is a long stay facility and the charges are only active until 6pm. The Centre is a short 5 min walk from Letchworth station. NB: If we are affected by Covid in any way, while this is still a public health issue; then the session will be able to move to an online format, as long as we are feeling well, but for example are needing to isolate.

My first session

At the first session we build on the initial consultation process and any paperwork that is completed and shared online, ahead of the face to face session. This is your opportunity to get a feel for the space we are using and to see how you feel about me and my approach. If this feels ok, then we can agree to planning future sessions.
