About me and my therapy practice
As an integrative psychodynamic counsellor, I provide a warm, non-judgemental and compassionate space for you to work through any difficult thoughts, feelings and events in your life. Integrative and psychodynamic model is a verified and established method of therapy for successfully healing mental and emotional distress. Within this framework, individuals gradually become more aware of aspects previously outside of their awareness. Opening up to talk about your past or the places in your life where you feel stuck can be difficult but, just by coming here, you’ve already taken the first step.
I use a range of modalities, such as psychodynamic, humanistic, trauma-informed, body psychotherapy, CBT, Gestalt, working with inner child to build the therapy around you and what you need. My therapy reflects that, working with all aspects of who you are as a person: mind, body and spirit.
Therapy is a process that requires commitment, patience, and a wish to change. Sessions will be conducted weekly for fifty minutes. Depending on availability and need this can be increased to meeting more frequently. The focus will be on whatever is on your mind.
I believe that finding the right therapist for you is incredibly important to allow you to feel comfortable enough to get the most out of therapy. Our first session will therefore be an opportunity for us both to get to know each other; for you to tell me about what’s brought you to therapy and to learn more about how I work as a therapist. If it feels like I'm the right person for you we can then decide the best way to work together.
I have worked in a variety of mental health and therapeutic settings, supporting individuals struggling with a range of issues, including:
- anxiety
- anger,
- depression
- trauma
- relationship issues
- grief
- abuse
- phobias
- OCD
- social anxiety
- ADHD
- family issues
- feeling low
- stres
- burnout
- narcissistic abuse
- low self-esteem
- lack of self worth and many more
Practice description
Integrative Framework
I chose integration because I believe that there is no one way of understanding human behavior and no therapeutic approach that is suitable for everyone and all presenting issues. I integrate different theoretical approaches into a cohesive, relational way of working which involves the ‘self’ of the therapist being present on multiple levels in the work with clients.
At your own pace
At first, when you have first counselling session, you may find the prospect of opening up about your private experiences and personal reactions to them daunting. Rest assured that this is normal and that you will never be forced to share more than you feel comfortable sharing, and certainly not before a degree of trust between us is in place. It may take a few sessions for this to happen and collaboratively we will determine the pace of our work together.
My first session
The initial consultation will give us both a chance to decide whether counselling is for you and whether we are a good enough fit and can work well together. During this free phone assesment I will ask you some questions about your background history, presenting issues (what is troubling you), and expectations for therapy. You will also be invited to ask me anything which may help you clarify whether you would feel comfortable with me. If we choose to work together, we will establish the focus of therapy and a treatment plan that will meet your needs. If, however, we agree that you may be better suited to a different therapist, I will do my best to signpost you in the right direction.
Goals
From the start, we will agree on what you will like to get out of therapy. However, we will be reviewing the work as we move along, offering you the opportunity to reflect on your progress and how we are doing. It is not uncommon for initial goals to change as the therapeutic work evolves over time.
