About me and my therapy practice

Are you feeling worried, stressed or overwhelmed? Are you looking for a safe space to talk? I can help you deal with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, work problems, childhood trauma, ill health, low self-esteem and other issues. I’m an integrative counsellor and I’m also a lecturer for trainee integrative counsellors. I have trained to Level 5 in integrative counselling and now I’m continuing to train further to Level 7 at master’s level. I'll use a range of counselling approaches and we’ll create a mix that suits you. My main foundation is person centred, which means I’ll be wholly accepting of you. I also draw upon techniques from cognitive behavioural therapy to help you gain control over thoughts that trouble you and psychodynamic therapy to look at any underlying past events if you wish to. We may use others such as transactional analysis, compassion focused therapy, bibliotherapy or creative therapies to help you express feelings.

Practice description

Counselling can help clients presenting with all sorts of difficulties, such as hopelessness, shame, worthlessness, mistrust, panic, stress, loss of interest, mood disorders, lack of confidence, comfort eating, legacy of childhood emotional neglect, self-destructive behaviour, bullying, self-harm, and relationship issues. Some of my clients come because they want to make sense of life events, such as a relationship break up, a health diagnosis, a bereavement, or a history of trauma. Others come because they wish to explore themselves more deeply. Some clients want to make changes and know they need to seek help to achieve this. Other clients reach their wits ends before getting in touch. There is no right or wrong time to start counselling.

My first session

Therapy is an opportunity to unravel things that tie us up in knots and have an understanding supporter. Feedback from past clients says I’m warm and supportive and I want to learn all about you. It’s really important that you get the right therapist for you, because part of the healing power comes from the relationship that develops when you feel heard and understood. I work with clients either in the short or long term and I counsel adults of all backgrounds. I'm committed to inclusivity and equality, and I’m able to work with neurodiversity. I like to work with clients who are motivated towards deep exploration for lasting changes. I work from a quiet and homely space in my comfortable private practice in Runcorn. I can also offer online video or telephone therapy to anywhere in the UK. Taking this step towards seeking a counsellor takes courage and it's an investment in yourself. I offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation to answer any questions and see whether it feels like we might work well together.

Types of therapy

Behavioural, Brief therapy, CBT, Cognitive, Creative therapy, Eclectic, Existential, Humanistic, Integrative, Person centred, Psychodynamic, Relational, Solution focused brief therapy, Transactional analysis
