About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Helen.
Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, confusing or simply harder than it should. You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, loss, life transitions, or feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Whatever brings you to counselling, I offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental professional relationship and a place where you can talk openly and be fully yourself.
As a humanistic therapist, I believe people have the capacity for growth and change, and that ability flourishes when they feel heard, understood and accepted. Counselling is a collaborative process, and together we can explore your experiences, make sense of difficult feelings, and develop greater self-awareness, resilience and confidence.
I work with both individuals and couples. Whether you're seeking support for yourself or wanting to improve communication and understanding within your relationship, I provide a safe space to explore what's happening, what needs to change and how you might manage that.
Finding the right therapist can feel daunting, so I offer a free, no-obligation initial consultation. This gives us the opportunity to discuss your needs, answer any questions you may have, and see whether working together feels right for both of us.
I offer individual counselling sessions (50 minutes) and couples counselling sessions (60 minutes) in person from Oker, near Matlock and online.
You don't need to have a clear plan before coming to therapy. Sometimes the first step is simply having a space where you can begin.
Practice description
I work in private practice, and for Wellbeing In The Arts, seeing clients in-person in my office which overlooks the Peak District National Park , or on-line, or a combination of both. I work with individuals and couples.
I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is the most secure foundation for effective counselling, so I offer a free half hour consultation where you can ask me questions and we can get a feel for how it might be to work together.
After that, in sessions, I tend to be guided by you, Your needs and your aims. You're unique, so your experience of counselling with me will be too. I’m curious about you, your experiences and how you’re feeling in sessions and all of you is welcome, the good, bad and ugly.
As an accredited member of the BACP I’m committed to the BACP Ethical Framework and maintaining high standards of personal and professional development and best practice.
My first session
I offer a free 30 minute consultation in-person, online or over the phone so you can ask me any questions you may have, we can get a feel for how it might be to work together and whether I'm the right counsellor for you. It's an informal chat rather than a full counselling session and there's no pressure to continue counselling if you decide not to go ahead.
