Donna - Through the Trees Counselling
About me and my therapy practice
Hi
Thank you so much for arriving on my page :-)
About me
My name is Donna and I am a licensed Counsellor running my own Private Practice called Through the Trees Counselling. I absolutely love my role as a counsellor. Why? Because I love supporting people to be the best versions of themselves and I hope that I can help you too. I feel privileged to work as a counsellor and to see so many clients grow and move forward in their lives where they may have thought it was not possible.
I work with teenagers and adults encountering a wide range of concerns including, anxiety, depression, intrusive/negative thoughts, overwhelming feelings, family and relationship breakdowns, domestic abuse, peer pressure, bullying, self-esteem, self-harming, addiction drugs & alcohol, identity issues, men's issues, stress, confidence, gender identity, bereavement, trauma past & present.
I am under no illusion that it takes a great deal of courage to ask for help at times in our lives. I have been at that point myself. I remember my own personal journey and going into therapy in my thirty’s. I was scared and did not know what to expect but looking back, it was the best decision I ever made.
Sometimes you just need someone to really listen and walk alongside you so they can feel what it is like to be in your shoes. Each one of us is going through a different journey in life and sometimes it can be quite bumpy road along the way. It is not always easy reaching out to someone you know or even love, even our closest are sometimes unable to help us, not because they do not care, they just do not know how.
A little bit more about my background
Apart from running my own practice, I have also been working for a mental health charity for over 10 years. I support people who are struggling with their mental health to live as independent life as is possible for them.
I feel privileged to work as a counsellor and to have been able to work with so many wonderful clients.

Practice description
How I can help you :-)
I will not be telling you what's best for you as you may have had that given to you in the past by friends or family and it has not helped, but I will be there to guide you and facilitate your own self growth, as you will discover, in time, that you have all the answers you need as you know yourself best.
We will be able to discuss during your initial call, most importantly, what you are or have been experiencing and discussing what you are hoping to gain from counselling and what goals you would like to reach.
My counselling style
One counselling approach does not fit all. I am fortunate that I have been trained in several different counselling modalities which enables me to tailor the session to your specific, individual needs. Clients have said to me 'Donna I feel better but I’m not sure why' or 'I feel so much stronger in myself and am more self-aware'. My response is always the same thing, 'counselling is an amazing process and you just have to trust it'.
Working as an Integrative Counsellor means I can draw on different types of therapy to tailor the counselling approach specifically to your needs. This approach is more flexible and inclusive than more traditional, singular forms of treatment. Taking into consideration your unique needs, experiences and goals will enhance your treatment experience.
Each one of us are unique in our own way. Another person may be going through the same thing as you and yet that person may see things completely differently to you. Sometimes you just need someone to see the world as you see it and look through your lens.
I am here to listen to you and see your world as you see it. So, if you like what you have read, please call, text, or email me with any further questions.
You can see some of my past clients’ testimonials on Google my Business if you so wish.
Thank you so much for your time in reading my profile. 🙂
My first session
Your first session
Once we have had our initial call and you are happy to go ahead with myself, I will book you in for your first appointment. This will either be a face-to-face appointment or online via zoom.
I am completely aware that it can be quite scary and daunting coming for your first session. I promise that this will pass very quickly and you will feel lighter after your first session.
Your 1st session will consist of me clarifying how we will work together making sure you understand everything about the service that I will be providing you which will then lead into your session.
Your session will last for 50 minutes.
At the end of your first session, I tend to check in to see how you found the experience and if you felt you would like to book another session. If you just want to think about it, you can go away and just get back to me. Either way is completely fine.
Therapy is open ended so there is no set limit to your sessions. We will review together as we go along. My aim is that my clients are always at the centre of their therapy. Clients tend to see improvements after 3 - 6 sessions.
You may just need short term or longer-term therapy.
We will have regular reviews together to make sure you are getting what you need from therapy.
I always explain to clients to think of therapy as 'self-care'. This is solely your time for you to just be you. To be listened too, within a confidential and non-judgemental space.
I look forward to meeting with you.
Donna :-)
