About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Claire. I offer supportive, empathic, friendly and confidential online counselling and psychotherapy. I have many years of experience in working with adults and young people. My approach isn't rigid - it focusses on you and your specific needs and is therefore flexible and adaptable according to what you bring to the therapy.
Online counselling is a way for you to engage in counselling using internet technology such as Zoom, email, online chat or webcam video link. I predominantly use Zoom video conferencing for this. You chose the time, the place and the pace of your counselling to suit your needs.
You will receive the same emotional support and understanding during your sessions as in face-to-face sessions..
You will still have the safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings in regard to any issues you may have.
Therapy at a time, place and pace that suits you.
The relationship between the client and therapist is the key to progress and making the changes you wish to make. I know how daunting it can feel when you're first looking for the 'right' therapist for you. We can have a short chat on the phone to allow you to ask any questions you may have prior to making an appointment if that helps ease the process.
Talking therapy works in a way to help you to find the way to understand your past experiences and your current situation. The goals of psychodynamic counselling are improved self-awareness and an understanding of the influence of the past on present behaviour and experiences. This is a relational approach and allows you to observe patterns of behaviour of your own or others that that may have occurred in your life, that could be affecting your relationships and well-being.
Practice description
I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Therapeutic Psychodynamic Counselling from the University of Brighton.
Whilst I also work in person at my practice in Hove, East Sussex, this particular profile is for my online work.
I work with people from all walks of life in a way that respects culture, values, beliefs, gender identity and sexual orientation.
Many people attend therapy for depression or low mood, anxiety, relationship difficulties, feelings of 'stuckness', trauma, loss and grief. You might not even be sure what is bothering you, but wish to process complicated thoughts and feelings. It may not seem to make sense why you are feeling low and that's why talking to an objective, experienced therapist can help you.

My first session
It’s not always easy making the first step to see a therapist. There can still be a social stigma surrounding mental health, but attitudes are changing. People decide to contact a therapist for a huge variety of reasons, perhaps relationship issues, feelings of loneliness, low mood for unexplained reasons, work stress, trauma – recent or historic and the impact on present day and of course, bereavement and loss. It can feel terribly hard coping alone and often taking the first step to making contact with a therapist can feel the hardest.
When you decide the time is right for you, get in touch via email or phone and we can discuss what you need.
