About me and my therapy practice

I am a BACP Accredited trauma informed counsellor, trained to practice EMDR.

Trauma can form in response to any experience which you have found distressing or overwhelming. As a result, you may find yourself exhibiting effects such as anxiety, poor concentration, trouble sleeping, or mood swings. If these are getting in the way of your daily life then it may be a sign that professional help is required to process the memories of what happened.

That is where EMDR comes in.

EMDR is an interactive therapy technique. The more complex the trauma, the more sessions are required, but it is believed that 12 sessions are usually enough. The treatment would see you recount traumatic memories while I guide you through rapid eye movements. These movements trigger a part in your brain which helps to sort out and organise the distressing memories so that the symptoms lessen.

In other words, EMDR collects core traumatic memories and files them away appropriately in the cabinet that is your brain. It is not hypnosis, and these memories will still exist, but you can continue with your day to day life.

A 2012 study showed that 77% of those who used EMDR therapy found that their symptoms (anxiety, depression and low self-esteem) had eased.

I am also a person-centred counsellor. I have the most experience working with issues such as:

Low self-esteem

Stress with exams

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Relationship problems

Suicidal thoughts and idealisation

Feel free to contact me for more information. If making phone calls causes anxiety then I would be happy to communicate with you via email or over text.
