About me and my therapy practice

Mindfulness and Compassion-based Therapy: I have something distinct to offer. Mindfulness and compassion inform my life and my work: age-old approaches that complement one another - validated by contemporary neuroscientific research. They foster self-acceptance and understanding: help us respond rather than react; bring curiosity to our experience; stand outside our critical inner voice.

Sessions are for you: to go at your own pace, choose what to talk about, to find your way. I will bring empathy and depth of experience to guide you in understanding, help you explore how unhelpful patterns of thought and behaviour can be changed; how you can lead a more calm and fulfilling life.

Depending on what is right for you at any particular time, I might introduce metaphor, symbolism, poetry, guided imagery or meditation, work with reference to the body or with dreams. Equally, I might include psycho-educational tools or a specific theoretical framework to help you relate to your experience from a more cognitive framework.

One of few experienced UK therapists trained to bring mindfulness to therapeutic work, I draw on Compassion-Focused Therapy, blended with my core training in psychosynthesis: an integrative therapeutic model which harnesses the imagination. My approach is fluid, intuitive, gentle, sensitive but rigorous – underpinned by strong theoretical understanding and sound training, frequently updated by CPD.

Bringing warmth and thoughtfulness to 1-to-1 therapy, I practice in Holborn, EC4 and Islington, N1. I also run mindfulness-based therapy groups. My background is in the arts and the accountancy profession.

To establish regularity and momentum in our work, weekly face-to-face sessions are at the same time, on the same day of the week. 50-min session: £75 EC4; £70 N1.

Practice description

Experience has led me to find that working on the basis of regular weekly sessions, at the same time and on the same day of the week, is most effective. These are normally face-to-face, but I do offer on-line sessions in specific circumstances, such as the 2020 Covid19 outbreak.

My first session

At our initial meeting we can discuss what may be troubling you and explore how we might work together.

It’s natural for you to feel apprehensive before we meet, but most people feel reassured by talking things through. This preliminary session will last 50 minutes, as will subsequent sessions.

You may decide to book an initial block of sessions. Or you might want to think it over for a few days.

And when we do start working together, it’s important that as our therapeutic connection develops you feel able to talk openly about what you feel you’re getting out of it.

I hope you'd like to arrange an initial appointment.

About me and my therapy practice

As an experienced practitioner and supervisor with extensive clinical background, I offer individual/group supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors/therapists. I welcome supervisees from diverse backgrounds practising in a variety of settings and informed by different modalities.

Drawing on clinical work of over a decade, ongoing training and CPD, substantial experience as supervisor of mindfulness practitioners/facilitators, my approach is integrative and relational. I offer supervision in line with BACP ethical guidelines; supported by regular, in-depth integrative and mindfulness-based supervision; and underpinned by my clinical and personal mindfulness-based and compassion-focused practices.

My aim is to work with you collaboratively in developing and maintaining a self-reflective therapy/counselling practice: challenging you where appropriate and supporting you in regularly reviewing your self-regulation and self-care. I encourage exploration of unconscious processes within both the therapeutic and supervisory relationship.

I offer you curiosity, engagement and empathetic support in delivering your client work and shaping your clinical practice. I am steady, open, knowledgeable, intuitive, and have experience across different theoretical frameworks.

My training is integrative: originally in psychosynthesis, my practice has deepened, broaden and embraced developments in contemporary thinking and includes mindfulness- and compassion-focused, body-based and phenomenological approaches (theoretical and experiential) in both individual and group work.

Fees: £50 for 50-min (Tues-Fri, normally late morning/early afternoon).

After establishing an ongoing face-to-face supervisory relationship, we may decide to move predominantly to Zoom/Skype sessions. I have a limited number of lower cost supervision spaces (sliding scale) for trainee and recently qualified counsellors with a low household income.

Practice description

As a long-term mindfulness practitioner, and one of few people specifically trained to bring mindfulness and compassion-based approaches to therapy or counselling, as well as supervision, I offer something particular.

The supervision I offer is in line with the BACP ethical guidelines; supported by regular, in-depth integrative and mindfulness-based supervision; and underpinned by my clinical and personal mindfulness-based and compassion-focused practices.

I will work with you collaboratively in developing and maintaining a self-reflective therapy/counselling practice: challenging you where appropriate and supporting you in regularly reviewing your self-regulation and self-care. I encourage exploration of unconscious processes in what may be going on within both the therapeutic and supervisory relationship.

My style is creative and intuitive – whilst drawing on a strong theoretical framework. I listen non-judgementally with genuine interest and concern, and offer thoughtful, attentive support in a personal, safe space. Where appropriate, I bring mindfulness an d compassion-focused approaches into the supervisory process.

I normally work face-to-face, particularly in the initial stages of our supervisory relationship, although this may not always be possible, and I am willing to explore alternatives - particularly in response to specific circumstances such as the 2020 Covid19 outbreak.

My first session

At our initial meeting we can discuss what you are looking for in supervision, your approach to therapy/counselling, and explore how we might work together.

This preliminary session will last 50 minutes.

You may decide to book an initial block of sessions. Or you might want to think it over for a few days.

And when we do start working together, it’s important that as our connection develops you feel able to talk openly about what you feel you’re getting out of it.

I hope you'd like to arrange an initial meeting.
