About me and my therapy practice

My Counselling services are created with you in mind; discretion and compassion guaranteed. I offer a flexible appointment system; including early, late and some weekends at my Lochmaben practice as well as online/telephone.

When life throws upsetting or unexpected things your way, I can help you find solutions or coping strategies that work for you. I have many life experiences which have shaped me into the Counsellor I am today; enabling me to offer true compassion and understanding.

Having worked in the Corporate Business world for 25 years I understand deeply the issues that arise in the workplace. Bullying, sexual harassment, redundancy, relocation, challenging staff, challenging managers, and more.

Long-term illness or sudden irreversible ill-health often trigger emotional responses. My work as an Alternative Healthcare Practitioner gives me extensive knowledge of disease patterns and symptoms, which complement my compassionate counselling; helping you - or your loved ones - cope with your diagnosis.

And there are the sudden unexpected challenges that life throws your way, as well as on-going situations that feel impossible to change. Whether you care for a disabled child or elderly relative, are wounded from your childhood, your marriage has ended, you are lonely, have OCD, are suffering from PTSD, are grieving, or can’t face the day and don’t know why… I welcome you. We can work together to help you feel better.

About me and my therapy practice

As a mental health professional, I work primarily one to one with private clients. In summary, my role is to facilitate healing, recovery and change, through self-development, self-awareness, adjustment, acceptance or medicine.

The need for healing or recovery or change is highly individualised, deeply personal and often private. I work with whatever clients bring to me. My work is completely focussed on you, the unique person that you are; I work differently with each client. Some clients have just a few sessions, whilst others may attend for a few years.

I offer deep authentic compassion, I meet you where you are. I see you, I hear you; no matter what. I feel honoured with what clients choose to share with me and I feel joy when I witness clients unfold into a space of trust as they share experiences from their personal history that may have been held in for years, decades even.

The most important element of therapy is the therapeutic relationship where the therapist – genuinely – offers compassion and unconditional positive regard and that the client feels these and feels emotionally safe and understood.

This is the space I create. I create this space on-line so that you can be in the comfort and safety of your home; a place of sanctuary during and after your session/s.

I offer you a blended integrative service wholly underpinned by psychotherapeutic modalities. You may choose any of the following additional services to be part of your individualised experience:

Guided Emotional Freedome Technique - EFT Tapping

Guided Breathwork

Guided Bodywork - a blend of massage and yoga

The Psychotherapy includes Transactional Analysis, CBT and Person Centred

I offer you my time – 75 minutes per session

Practice description

My - Online - Practice is designed to create a safe space for you. For you to explore your feelings, your thoughts, your experiences from the comfort of your home with my support online. You have time to think, explore and feel...

You may be looking for support for one, or a few, of the following, but do ask if what you are looking for is not included below; if I am unable to support you I may well be able to refer you...

Relationships – relationships are vital to being human yet can be problematic and complex experiences. I work with all kinds of relationships.

Anxiety – anxiety is often symptomatic of an underlying cause, understanding this along-with learning calming techniques is highly beneficial.

Depression – depression is often symptomatic of an underlying cause, understanding its origins takes us through a process that often touches other high level symptoms, such as Abuse, PTSD, Grief et al.

Abuse – sexual, physical, emotional, financial, whether from childhood or adulthood are deeply violating experiences. With time and compassion you can move towards safety.

Grief - adapting and adjusting to the loss of a loved one is so personal.

PTSD – creating a safe space for processing trauma through the language of the body and soothing techniques that help to settle a hyper-vigilant nervous system.

Ill Health – a diagnosis can be shocking and frightening, the emotional impact can be significant until we find ways to adapt to such unwelcome change.

My first session

Please contact me directly to enquire about working with me.

I offer a free no obligation 20 minute call, telephone or online during which you can ask me questions and get a sense of what it is like to be in a space with me.

Sessions are booked only if you decide to book; I will not pressure you or chase you for a decision. Some people can take over a year to decide to start therapy, others make their mind up immediately; its a highly individualised process.

In your first session I conduct a short assessment of your psychological well-being, which is asking a number of questions and applying a score. This can act as an ice-breaker.

Then I ask you to tell me in your own words what brought you to seek support. I will follow you, no matter how jumbled you think your story is.

Towards the end of the session I will summarise and make some offerings about methods I believe will help. You have absolute choice and governance as to how we work together; some techniques work well for some people and not for others and that is OK because you are a unique individual.

We arrange one or a number of followups to suit our schedules.

I encourage clients to have their second session no more than a week after their first, thereafter, working with two sessions per month is usually enough. You can choose to have sessions more regularly if you prefer.

You can expect to feel tired after your first session, I encourage clients to have space after their session to rest and reflect.
