About me and my therapy practice

Taking the first step into counselling can feel daunting. I want to make that step worthwhile and helpful for you. I hope that together we can create an environment where you feel able to freely explore and look at what is important to you. I have experience working with a range of ages, different backgrounds, experiences and beliefs.

I am a professionally qualified therapist with experience in depression, self esteem, anxiety, bereavement, loss, change, trauma, relationship difficulties, life and work stress.

I am passionate about the value of human interaction and compassion which can help to heal and support growth. I seek to help clients understand and accept their experiences, reducing distress whilst building resilience and strength.

The underpinning value I hold with each and every client is respect for their individual experience, exploring how that feels and what impact it has on their life and relationships. I am not here to judge or tell you what to do but to work alongside you to reach your own insight and understanding. We will work at a pace that is right for you, and together see how you can feel better about yourself, relationships, choices and your life.

I offer a safe, confidential and supportive space where you can talk freely, process and make sense of things. I will help you look at how you can use that understanding to identify, explore and consider options that can have a positive impact on your life and wellbeing.

Therapy can help you to express and make sense of things, to feel more resilient and more able to cope.

I work from a counselling centre in the south side of Glasgow, easily accessed by public transport with parking on side streets.

I can offer day and early evening appointments.

Please get in touch and we will have an initial chat on the phone and see if what I offer feels right for you.

Practice description

I am trained in Person Centred Therapy. I believe that a genuine, warm human relationship can really aid in self healing. I balance my compassion and empathy with an appropriate level of reflection and challenge in order to help you explore more deeply what’s going on. This will allow you to develop self awareness, feel more self acceptant and better about your life.

In addition I offer  Emotion Focussed Therapy, which helps build emotional awareness. It builds on the Person Centred principles such as empathy, non judgement and the belief that we all strive towards growth. It offers you the opportunity to connect with and and understand your own emotions and their impact in your life whilst fostering growth and choice. Emotions are a key part of our experience. Often we don’t understand or know what we feel. This can lead us to becoming stuck in unhelpful patterns of emotion and behaviour. By exploring the nuances of how we feel we can also learn what we need and how to soothe ourselves. We are then able to transform the emotion from something that holds us back into something useful that can help us take action and make informed decisions.

My first session

When you first come for therapy, my aim first and foremost is to help you begin to trust both me and the process. I will seek to work collaboratively and in a facilitative way with you, always respecting your pace and autonomy along the way. I hope you will quickly feel that you can trust me, feel safe and accepted.

I will invite you to begin to talk abut what brings you to therapy and if you are coming as a couple ensure both of you have an opportunity to talk, we will discuss the process and what you are looking for and there will be a chance to ask me any questions. We will begin our work together from wherever you are and build from there.
