About me and my therapy practice

How I work ?
I seek to form a strong, therapeutic relationship with clients by listening attentively, conveying empathy, showing unconditional positive regard, and facilitating growth. For me, you are at the centre of the therapy. Therefore, I work collaboratively and offer a bespoke therapy customised to your individual needs. I accept my clients, treating them with respect and confidentiality. Clients tell me that I am easy to talk to, that I listen carefully and enable them to share their feelings. I support you through difficulties to better understand yourself. I seek to enable you to gain clarity on your situation and your goals, awareness of your choices and of your strengths. Ultimately, I help you create positive changes in your life so you can realise your goals.
Specialist areas of interest.
I support clients with relationship issues, including: breakups, separation, divorce, bereavement or life changes in general. I am keen to help clients to understand themselves more and to enhance their relationships with others. I work with anxiety and depression arising from difficulties with relationships.
Another area of interest is in helping clients with work related stress and trauma find meaning and purpose in work and in life.

What to expect from me?
I will provide a calm, safe space to support you through this difficult time by listening to you and giving you the time to process uncomfortable feelings, clarify your goals, and to guide you to find your own path through these challenges.
My approach is bespoke according to what will best help you as a client. I integrate approaches from a humanistic base. I can draw on relational, person-centred, pluralistic, existential, CBT, creative, solution focused approaches. I will ask you how the counselling is going for you on a regular basis to check that we are working in alignment.
On our first session, I will ask for an overview of your difficulties and ask you for a sense of what you would like to achieve from counselling. I will go through a counselling contract with you to support our work together.
Since 2020, I have worked as a Counsellor at York St John's CMHC, with a variety of clients, some students, some professionals and retired people. I work with clients experiencing: anxiety, depression, grief, loss, relationship issues, work related stress, sexual abuse, domestic violence and also trauma. I have also helped clients who have autism, ADHD and who have BPD.
Prior to this, I worked as a Counsellor at INSIGHT Charity in Dundee for two years . This entailed counselling adult clients from diverse socio-economic backgrounds who faced challenges around unemployment, relationship breakup, and isolation.

My first session
I offer a 20 minute initial session for free for you to establish if we wish to commit to working together. Please email to set this up.
In our first session, I will ask you what brings you to counselling, why this time is right for you now, and ask you what you feel I need to know to best understand your situation. I may ask you if you have a goal or a sense of where you may want to be after the counselling process. Clients find me warm, kind and supportive and I will give you the space you need to talk and to start to process your feelings.
