About me and my therapy practice
Beginning counselling and psychotherapy can be daunting, but I aim to offer a safe and holding environment within which you can begin to talk about and work through issues that you are struggling with. I work from the premise that we all have unconscious thoughts that can live with us for years, can influence our behaviour and can impact on our ability to form or maintain relationships. Through our work together I hope that by bringing some of these thoughts and feelings into consciousness you can begin to gain insight into the areas of your life which are causing you pain.
As a psychodynamic counsellor I believe in the importance of exploring how early experiences shape us, and in my practice I will encourage you to explore, through our relationship, how we might use this insight to understand the place you find yourself in now.
You needn’t be in crisis to attend counselling: it is a confidential space in which you can explore your thoughts and feelings, new or old. There might be areas of your life you need to understand further and experiences that you want to make sense of in order to live a fuller life.
I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and work within their ethical guidelines. I offer a safe and non-judgemental space, and hope to be an approachable presence in your therapeutic journey.
My first session
I offer a free initial session, which will last up to 30 minutes and will be online. This offers you the opportunity for you to get a feel for how I work, and it let's me take some initial information from you to ensure I'm offering a suitable type of therapy for your needs. Following this, sessions will be weekly (or fortnightly if suitable), and will last 50 minutes.
